Lankan Rupee Dominates Caulfield Jump-out

Mick Price was forced to rely on jockey Craig Newitt's review as fog spoiled any chance of watching Lankan Rupee's Caulfield jump-out on Tuesday.
Lankan Rupee disappeared into the fog after about 100m of the 800-metre trial, leaving Price and a band of onlookers none the wiser about the merit of the world's best sprinter's work.
But jockey Newitt returned pleased with Lankan Rupee's hit-out which has him on target for his highly anticipated race return on Saturday week in the Group Two McEwen Stakes (1000m) at Moonee Valley.
"Craig said he felt good and won by five lengths," Price said.
Lankan Rupee was given an easy time in finishing second in a barrier trial at Cranbourne on heavy ground last Tuesday and Price said Tuesday's jump-out would tighten the gelding up even more.
The triple Group One winner will head to Moonee Valley next Tuesday morning to gallop before he resumes in the McEwen four days later.
"I don't want to be missing any work but I think he's right on target," Price said.
"I reckon he's pretty spot on."
