Rubick Pleases Trainer In Comeback Trial

Talented colt Rubick has shown his spring campaign is back on track with a barrier trial win at Rosehill with new jockey Kerrin McEvoy aboard.

The Blue Diamond Prelude winner's preparation suffered a hiccup when he was found to have a virus a couple of months ago and missed his planned return.

For trainer Gerald Ryan it was not too much of a setback with the colt only scheduled to have a short spring campaign.

The three-year-old gained a high profile during his autumn campaign as a son of Sliding Cube, a sister to Redoute's Choice.

In Tuesday's 900m trial, Rubick beat stablemate Time For War by a length, with Ryan pleased with both colts.

"Kerrin was very happy with Rubick and the plan is to go to the Schillaci Stakes at weight-for-age and then the Coolmore," Ryan said.

"Tye (Angland) was also happy with Time For War and rides him in the Roman Consul Stakes on Saturday."

A dual Group Two winning two-year-old, Time For War will be joined in the Roman Consul by stablemate Klammer who has run third in his past four starts, all at stakes level.

"Josh Parr rides Klammer and will also ride Charlie Boy in the Premiere Stakes," Ryan said.

"And Corey Brown will be back from Singapore and he will ride Bachman."

Fourth in the Stan Fox Stakes behind Shooting To Win, Bachman is on a path towards the Victoria Derby (2500m) on November 1.

He will back up a week after his Stan Fox run in Saturday's Dulcify Quality (1600m).

"He has come through the Stan Fox in good order and I think he is a very promising stayer," Ryan said.

"He has to back up somewhere so this week looks ideal.

"The plan is to then go to the Caulfield Classic two weeks after Saturday and then two weeks into the Derby."

Bachman was a comprehensive winner of the Schweppervescence (1400m) in April. He is by All American out of Group One placegetter Ain't Seen Nothin'.
