Kavanagh Adds To Rawiller Canterbury Book

Leading jockey Brad Rawiller will be trying to ride winners for family as well as a close friend during a midweek cameo at Canterbury.

One of Australia's most dedicated riders with multiple national premierships to his credit, Rawiller will head to Sydney on Wednesday to ride two horses for his brother Todd.

But it is his booking for the Sam Kavanagh-trained Spinning Diamond that could turn out to be the most profitable.

"Brad is a mate of mine and rode a lot for me when I was in Adelaide and helped me out," Kavanagh said.

Spinning Diamond, a last-start Rosehill winner in better company, will be one of the favourites in the Tab.com.au Handicap.

The mare was withdrawn from a Rosehill race on Saturday when Rawiller was confirmed for Canterbury mounts.

"When I found out that Brad was coming up to ride for his brother Todd I decided to save her for Wednesday," Kavanagh said.

"She'll run well. She drew a tricky gate (at Rosehill) and I didn't think it was going to work out for her."

Spinning Diamond's Rosehill win was her first in five visits to the races in NSW and her second overall after winning in Adelaide as a three-year-old.

"She's been a tricky horse, she's got her share of issues," Kavanagh said.

"But her last win was impressive, she seemed to put it all together that day and the form has worked out from the race."

Rawiller's mounts for his brother will be Medusa's Miss in the TAB Place Multi Handicap and Aboutogobang in the Schweppes Handicap.

Medusa's Miss and Aboutogobang are new to Todd Rawiller's Warwick Farm stable and they are resuming.

In Medusa's Miss, the trainer has inherited a mare who lost form after a Canterbury win late last year while Aboutogobang is a sparingly raced four-year-old who is also a winner at Wednesday's venue.

Rawiller rode 157 winners last season to beat NSW bush rider Greg Ryan in the national jockeys' title and he sits in fifth place in 2014-2015 with 42 victories.
