Cup Fav Autopsy Report Still Weeks Away

Autopsy results on Admire Rakti won't be available for at least another three weeks, Racing Victoria officials say.

Admire Rakti collapsed and died when he returned to his stall after finishing last when favourite in the Melbourne Cup.

Racing Victoria chief steward Terry Bailey said he had received an interim report while further tests are still being held to rule out "anything but natural causes".

He said once those tests were finished, a report was received and considered, it would only be then that a full report into the Admire Rakti's death would be released.

Bailey said stewards had interviewed Admire Rakti's jockey Zac Purton over his ride and were satisfied with his explanation.

"Mr Purton explained to stewards that the horse got much further back than connections had hoped in the Caulfield Cup after being beaten out of the gates and then shuffled back by other runners in the rush to the first corner," Bailey said.

"In the Melbourne Cup the horse jumped on better terms and was able to take up a desired position in the leading division with the longer run to the first turn.

"His pre-race instructions to be running in the first six were consistent with the horse's overall racing pattern in Japan.

"In all circumstances we are satisfied with the riding tactics of Mr Purton in the Melbourne Cup."
