Tinto Getting Closer To Best Distances

Trainer Rex Lipp can hardly wait for Queensland Oaks winner Tinto's rematch with New Zealander Tarloshan.

Tinto ran a strong third to Tarloshan in the Listed Just Now Stakes (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday.

The two mares are likely to clash again in the Listed Bernborough Stakes (1600m) at Toowoomba on New Year's Eve.

Tinto was having her second run back from a spell and came from near last at the 800m while Tarloshan got a rails run for jockey Robbie Fradd to come away and score a good win.

Lipp said Tinto had a few things against her and he hoped things evened out at her next start.

"We had to give the winner 5-1/2 kilograms. I just hope in an open company stakes race like the Bernborough we don't get lumbered with something like 59.5 (kg) again." Lipp said."

"My mare will be a lot fitter for that run and as it turned out being drawn close to the fence didn't help us."

"Also the winner loves wet tracks and while we handle them it might be a different story on the dry and over 1600 metres."

Lipp is aiming Tinto at the Magic Millions Stayers Cup (1800m) on January 10.

Trainer Graeme Boyd, who has based himself at the Gold Coast for Tarloshan's Queensland campaign, also believes his mare will be suited by the 1600 metres of the Bernborough Stakes.

"I would eventually like to try her at 2000 metres," he said.

Tarloshan continued the run of success for visiting horses in the Brisbane summer black type fillies and mares series.

The Kris Lees-trained Brook Road won the Travel Associates Classic on November 29 by a half length from Tinto.

A week later Brook Road's stablemate Savoureux won the Mode Plate.
