Ottoman The New Golden Slipper Favourite

Ottoman has displaced her Godolphin stablemate as the favourite for the Golden Slipper, showing a maturity beyond her experience on debut at Rosehill.

The $1.30 favourite for Saturday's 2YO Plate (1100m), Ottoman's chances looked forlorn when she was second last shortly after they jumped.

But she held it together and James McDonald skirted the field at the top of the straight and the filly ran down Miss Idyllic ($13) to win by a head.

"I got sandwiched between horses at the start," McDonald said.

"Then she over-raced a bit but was still too good."

The TAB immediately posted Ottoman at $6 for the $3.5 million Golden Slipper on March 21 with Furnace at $8.

Godolphin representative, retired champion jockey Darren Beadman praised McDonald's ride.

"James did a good job to get her into a rhythm after what happened at the start," Beadman said.

"She was simply scintillating.

"Ideally she would probably be a horse which would race on the speed and this adds a string to her bow.

"It's a different kind of pressure from working and trialling.

"She's come here and got an education and a win."

Beadman said he was unsure what trainer John O'Shea would do next but the filly could now have a short break.

"The Slipper comes round quick enough so there's not a lot of time," he said.
