Sacred Falls Topweight In Doncaster Mile

Sacred Falls will have to carry top weight of 58 kilograms to win a third Doncaster Mile but his trainer believes he is up to the task.

Chris Waller said the five-year-old would begin his campaign in the Group One Canterbury Stakes on Saturday week.

"He is a very good horse and good enough to do it," Waller said.

"It is an honour to have the topweight in such a prestigious race.

"He is a credit to Raffles Racing and Waikato Stud. He could already be making a lot of money as a stallion but they are in it for the sport."

Sacred Falls will stand at Waikato Stud in the spring as a fitting replacement for his sire O'Reilly who died in December.

While Sacred Falls goes up 1.5kg on his 2014 weight, Royal Descent, the second home in Waller's historic Doncaster first four, will carry 54kg, the same as last year.

Weary, third in 2014 with 51.5kg, has 54kg, as does Hawkspur who drops 2kg on the weight he carried to fourth last year.

The Peter Moody-trained Dissident is the second highest weighted on 57.5kg. He will bid for his fifth Group One in Saturday's Futurity Stakes at Caulfield.

Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist is the 58kg topweight for the Sydney Cup (3200m), 1.5kg more than Hong Kong's Dominant and English stayer Red Cadeaux.

Now trained by Kris Lees at Newcastle after racing for German trainer Andreas Wohler in the Melbourne Cup, Protectionist will run in Saturday's Group Two Peter Young Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield.

That race will decide whether he is sharp enough for the Australian Cup (2000m) two weeks later or whether he returns to Sydney for the BMW (2400m).

Red Cadeaux, three times the runner-up in the Melbourne Cup including last year, is in quarantine at Werribee ahead of the Australian Cup which will be his lead-up to the BMW and Sydney Cup.

The Waller-trained Who Shot Thebarman, the Melbourne Cup minor placegetter, has 54.5kg in the Sydney staying feature on April 11.

He begins his campaign in Saturday's Group One Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm.
