New Trainer Needed For Diamond Runner

Disqualified trainer Mark Riley has lost his bid to postpone the removal of leading Blue Diamond Stakes contender Of The Brave from his stable.

The Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board on Monday banned Riley for three years after finding him guilty of the administration of bi-carb to a horse in his care.

Stewards have ordered Of The Brave to be transferred to another trainer by 10am (AEDT) on Wednesday if the two-year-old colt is to run in Saturday's Group One race.

Lawyers for Riley asked Victorian Supreme Court Justice Stephen Kaye to postpone the removal until Friday, when Riley will appeal his disqualification in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Justice Kaye accepted Of The Brave's preparation for the race may be hindered if moved, but rejected the application.

He said the court did not have the jurisdiction to intervene.

Stewards said they had set the timeframe for the transfer of Of The Brave and stablemate Lucky Paddy, who is also nominated to race on Saturday, to ensure punters and betting operators had appropriate notice of any changes.

They also rejected an application for Riley's employee Logan McGill to take over the training of the two horses.
