Excitement To Keep Winning Streak Intact

The six-week gap between Red Excitement's Manifold Stakes win and the Liverpool City Cup is of no concern to his trainer Gerald Ryan.

The five-year-old missed the Carlyon Cup at Caulfield a couple of weeks ago when the track was downgraded on race morning.

Although it improved during the day, Ryan said there were no regrets about scratching him from a surface he doesn't like.

After he won three in a row in early 2014, Red Excitement spent the rest of the year recovering from a strained tendon.

His comeback has brought three more wins and Ryan sees no reason why the streak can't continue in Saturday's Group Three Liverpool City Cup (1300m) at Warwick Farm.

"He went ten months between runs so missing that run in Melbourne doesn't matter," Ryan said.

"He has done as well as ever so I am happy with him."

Red Excitement's competition includes his stablemate Hot Snitzel, the 59kg topweight for the race.

Brenton Avdulla rides Red Excitement while Blake Shinn will be aboard stablemate Hot Snitzel.

A multiple Group winner, Hot Snitzel is making a comeback of his own after undergoing emergency colic surgery when he was getting ready for a spring campaign.

He has no luck in the latter stages of his return race, when beaten 2-1/2 lengths into seventh in the Southern Cross Stakes at Rosehill last Saturday week.

"He had no joy first-up so I was happy with that run," Ryan said.

"I think the race suits."

Red Excitement remained the TAB's $3.60 favourite on race eve ahead of Pornichet at $5, Territory $7 and Thump $8.

Hot Snitzel was at $11 alongside Queenslander Rudy, winner of the Villiers Stakes in December.
