Set Square To Undergo Tests Before Oaks

A thorough veterinary examination will determine whether Set Square presses on to the Australian Oaks.

The Ciaron Maher-trained filly, with Craig Williams aboard for the first time, ran the worst race of her-seven start career when 11th behind Fenway in the Group One Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill on Saturday.

Maher said if the daughter of Reset is given the all-clear and passes a track gallop in the lead-up to the Group One Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 11, she will take her place.

Set Square, who won the VRC Oaks (2500m) at Flemington at her fourth race start last spring, was in a piggish mood before last Saturday's race.

"She's pulled-up all right," Maher said.

"She had a slow recovery but she ran her race before she actually got in the race.

"We'll do a few tests on her to make sure she's OK.

"Provided they're OK we'll give her a gallop and then we'll go to the races."

Maher said the reason for her disappointing display could be a number of things but nothing that was obvious to the trainer.

Set Square was a $6 chance for the Oaks before Saturday's race but has since drifted to $8 following her disappointing display.
