Waterhouse Plays Vancouver Waiting Game

Gai Waterhouse remains adamant Vancouver is on track for a successful spring but has stopped short of committing him to a start in the $1 million Golden Rose.

The colt was displaced as favourite for the Group One race when he was beaten in a Rosehill barrier trial on Tuesday.

Waterhouse said she would let the dust settle before confirming whether the Golden Slipper winner would take his place in the Golden Rose on Saturday week.

"No decision. We will just shoot the breeze for the next week and then we'll decide exactly what we'll do," Waterhouse said.

"He was on the inner track at Rosehill, it's only 1000-odd metres. He's probably a little bit out of his comfort zone, as an older horse he's probably looking for 1400 (metres).

"But I'd be very surprised when he gets over 1400 on the track he's won his Group One on if you don't see the real Vancouver."
