Vinnie Roe Heads Cup Weights

Dermot Weld's stayer Vinnie Roe heads the weights for the 2002 Tooheys New Melbourne Cup and Carlton Draught Caulfield Cup following the release of handicaps today.

The five-year-old is the winner of eight of its fourteen starts and has been asked to carry 59kgs in both races.

A two-time Group 1 winner, Vinnie Roe will be attempting to emulate the feats of Vintage Crop which Weld trained to win the 1993 Melbourne Cup.

Reigning Carlton Draught Cox Plate champion Northerly is second in the Cups weights with 58 kgs ahead of the Godolphin stable's Marienbard (57) which won at Group 1 level in Germany at the weekend.

Other notable horses in the handicaps were AJC Derby winner, Don Eduardo (54.5), Derby runner-up Carnegie Express (54), VRC Oaks winner Magical Miss (52.5) and AJC Oaks winner Republic Lass (52).
