Cross Tough in Rising Star Win

Sixteen-year-old Brady Cross upstaged his better-known rivals to win yesterday's third race in the 2003 TEAC Rising Stars Series at Ballarat.

Cross was aboard Tough Times, a $22 outsider in the field of seven but stormed down the outside to defeat Numilla (Mark Pegus) and Riva Storm (Michelle Payne).

Dale Smith remains the series leader on 13 points, one clear of Cross and Reece Wheeler.

The next race in the series is scheduled for September 10 at Seymour.
