McEvoy Closing in on Lindsay Park Record

r5tonymcevoy.jpg (7571 bytes)Tony McEvoy has had a great start to the new racing season and is bearing down on Lindsay Park’s longstanding record of 24 winners in August.

Colin Hayes AM O.B.E trained 24 winners in the 1986 / 87 season and his son David repeated the performance in 1990 / 91 and again in 1993 / 94. McEvoy is currently sitting on 23 winners with strong chances tomorrow in both Melbourne and Adelaide.

With Fields of Omagh stepping out for his second start in the Group 2 Memsie Stakes at Caufield tomorrow McEvoy has high hopes for equaling the record in the feature race.

"We are stepping up in class tomorrow and while horses such as Northerly deserve the utmost respect there is no reason why our horse can’t make it eight in a row," McEvoy said.

While McEvoy’s six winners at Balaklava on Wednesday have placed him in a position to take out this months national leading trainer title it is the improvement of horses such as the Jeune filly Cocktail Evening that fills him confidence leading into the spring.
