Melbourne Next for Champion Sunline

There seems little chance of Sunline returning to Hastings for Saturday week's Glenmorgan Hawke's Bay Challenge Stakes.

Co-trainer Trevor McKee has virtually counted out that race in nominating the $A250,000 Feehan Stakes at Moonee Valley on the same day as the champion mare's next likely target. That will require travelling to Melbourne in the middle of next week.

Sunline was given her first gallop since winning the Mudgway Partsworld Stakes in her seven-year-old pipe-opener when she worked over 1000 metres at Takanini yesterday.

In an interesting twist, her regular jockey Greg Childs has been engaged to ride arch rival Northerly in the Craiglee Stakes at Flemington on Saturday. Childs helped bring about Northerly's defeat in last Saturday's Memsie Stakes.

Northerly finished fourth after being held in a pocket during the early stages by Childs riding Fields Of Omagh. Damien Oliver, his jockey then, had already decided to ride Don Eduardo when trainer Fred Kersley decided to back Northerly up.
