McEvoy Named Captain Of Shergar Cup Team

Kerrin McEvoy will mark his return to Europe as captain of the Rest of the World team at Royal Ascot's Shergar Cup.
The freelance rider has been announced for the premier jockeys' challenge on August 8, alongside big names Frankie Dettori, Jamie Spencer and Emma-Jayne Wilson.
As a retained jockey for Godolphin, McEvoy claimed an English classic in his debut European season, riding Rule Of Law to victory in the 2004 St Leger at Doncaster.
He first made his mark at the famous racecourse on Festivale in the 2008 Sandringham Handicap.
He'd previously won the St James's Palace Stakes on Shamardal the year Royal Ascot was held at York in 2005.
"Ascot is a beautiful course and has provided me with some memorable moments so I look forward to taking part in this great competition," the Melbourne Cup-winning jockey said.
The Shergar Cup is a six-race competition between teams of jockeys representing Great Britain and Ireland, Europe, The Rest of the World and The Girls.
The winning team takes home the Shergar Cup while the jockey with the most individual points is awarded the Silver Saddle.
There promises to be a special rivalry between McEvoy and Great Britain and Ireland captain Jamie Spencer who are good friends.
McEvoy will look to continue his Group One-winning streak with rides in the Champagne Stakes and All Aged Stakes at Randwick on Saturday.
The jockey, fresh from his Queen of the Turf win on the Gai Waterhouse-trained Amanpour, also keeps an association with Kourkam in the Japan Racing Association Plate.
Kourkam is trained by McEvoy's uncle Tony McEvoy and the jockey was in the saddle when the imported stayer won the Albury Gold Cup last month.
