Distance Test For Kareeming At M Valley

The Pat Carey-trained Kareeming faces a distance test when he chases back-to-back city wins on Saturday.
Kareeming won over 2000m at Caulfield last start after three-straight placings at the distance and Carey is keen to see how he performs over 2500m for the first time in Saturday's Benchmark 90 handicap at Moonee Valley.
"He was strong at the end of a mile and a quarter and he's out of a mare by Unfuwain so his pedigree sort of gives me a bit of a clue that he might get a bit of ground," Carey said.
"But I'm also very wary of horses stepping to a mile and a half for the first time."
Kareeming is on the third line of betting behind Second Bullet and Killarney Kid.
Killarney Kid won at Flemington in his first start for trainer Peter Moody on May 9 over 2000m.
Carey said it had been an intention to try Kareeming over a distance at some stage this campaign and he has elected to do so while the horse is in winning form.
"You just don't want it to be at the end of a preparation when they are tired," he said.
"The horse is in great form and I think his star is still rising, so we'll roll with it and have a look and see how he goes."
Kareeming is one of three Moonee Valley runners for Carey with London Stripe to contest the Schweppes Handicap and East Afrika the William Hill Handicap.
