Track Rider Dies After Fall At Caulfield

A track rider who died from injuries in a fall at Caulfield has been named as 25-year-old German national Friederike Ruhle.

A Melbourne Racing Club statement said she was riding on the sand track on Wednesday morning for her employer Byron Cozamanis when the accident happened.

Ruhle was attended to at the track but died on arrival at Melbourne's Alfred Hospital.

MRC chairman Mike Symons said the club was conducting an investigation into the incident in conjunction with Victoria Police and Work Safe.

"I have enormous respect for the significant contribution that our track rider make in preparing our equine stars for racing and the inherent risks that come working with horses," Symons said.

"On behalf of the committee, staff, and members of the club, our sincere sympathies go out to Friederike's family, friends, colleagues at Byron Cozamanis Racing, and all of the racing community at Caulfield during this very sad time."
