Husson Choice Primed For Queensland Cup

Tegan Harrison's persistence has rewarded her with the prime ride on Husson Choice in the Queensland Cup (3200m) on Saturday.

Harrison will be having her first ride for trainer David Vandyke who is yet to formally meet the leading Queensland rider.

"I must say Tegan was very keen for the ride. In fact she nearly drove me mad chasing it," Vandyke said.

"She is among the top riders in Queensland and she will know the track."

Husson Choice carries the colours of Nick Moraitis which have been worn to victory in some of Australia's greatest two mile races including in Might and Power's 1997 Melbourne Cup triumph.

Vandyke believes Husson Choice is no superstar but has a few things in his favour on Saturday.

"He has had a good solid preparation for this race and has already been over 3200 metres this campaign when third," Vandyke said.

"His last start was over 2600m when he was third again so we know he will run out a strong 3200m which is more than you can say for a lot of them in this race."

The Sunshine Coast on Saturday is likely to be soft at best and that also holds no fears for Husson Choice who has only once missed a placing in 11 starts on rain-affected ground.

Husson Choice's recent third at 3200m was behind runaway winner Lovethebeaches, a Queensland Cup runner, who got out to a huge lead in the middle stages when winning the Stayers Quality.

"Surely the other jockeys won't let him (Lovethebeaches) get that far in front again, and the Sunshine Coast has an uphill straight (so you don't want to use too much energy early)," said Vandyke.

Harrison has just returned from a short holiday and has picked up a good book of rides including being reunited with Hi Son in the Troy Trevitt Homes Open (1600m).

"I have had a good freshen up and I am looking forward to Saturday. I want to finish the season off well," she said.

Meanwhile, Robbie Fradd has picked up the ride on the Mike Moroney trained Mister Impatience in the Queensland Cup.

Mister Impatience was a good winner over 3000m at Ballarat two starts back before finishing fourth at Randwick over 2600m at his last start.

Moroney, who won the Queensland Cup in 2011 with Tinseltown, said the race had always been Mister Impatience's winter aim.
