Sold at the 2001 Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney for $1.1 million, the son of Danehill is now is the stables of racings first lady Gai Waterhouse.
Bred by the Sangster familys Swettenham Stud, the colt was sold in a quality packed draft from Collingrove Stud.
A half brother to the brilliant Group winner Sarson Trail, Stanford is out of the top producing broodmare Rossignol.
Yesterday was Stanfords third start and his victory had followed two strong fourth placings in city events.
The well named galloper Wide Awake made good late ground to grab second place.
Waterhouse has a good opinion of Stanford and he is among a swag of quality entries for October's Group One Caulfield Guineas (1600m) in Melbourne.
