Jockey Whiteman Outed

A Sydney-based jockey has been suspended for testing positive to banned drugs, a Racing NSW report says.

Mark Whiteman will serve a seven-month ban after samples he produced after trackwork and Canterbury barrier trials last month contained traces of substances banned under the Australian rules of racing.

He pleaded guilty to a charge at a Racing NSW inquiry on Monday and will start the suspension on Wednesday week.

Whiteman will be out until June 2 but stewards will shave two months off the ban if he has counselling.

Counselling will also allow the jockey to return as a trackwork and barrier trial rider from February 2.
