Rookie Jumps Riders Star in New Zealand

Cambridge jumps rider Richard Eynon scored the first win of his brief career when he rode outsider Phantom Jay to victory in the La-Z-Boy Chair Hurdles at Avondale today.

Eynon was having just his second race ride and punched the 40-to-one shot home to beat another outsider in Fearless Arrival.

This set up a $34,000 trifecta dividend, with third place going to the more favoured Mastercard.

Runner-up Fearless Arrival was ridden by Matamata apprentice Angela Magee, having just her third raceday ride.

Both Eynon and Magee are graduates of the jumps riders' clinic staged at the Ann and Ken Browne property at the beginning of the winter.
