L Schmidt rider of STRAWIN reported that his mount raced ungenerously throughout the race.

RACE TWO CLASS 5 HCP – 11OO M

Acting on veterinary advice that COSEVEIN was lame and unfit to start, stewards ordered the withdrawal of COSEVEIN at 1.38pm. Stewards questioned Ms A White trainer of COSEVEIN about the circumstances surrounding the scratching of COSEVEIN. Evidence was also taken from farrier C Pollard. It was established that COSEVEIN had suffered a stone bruise some days ago and that injury was the reason for it having to be scratched. After considering all the evidence stewards ordered that a scratching fee of $500 be imposed.

Trainer A Trengrove sought permission for SKIING to be placed in the barriers last. After considering the matter stewards refused Mr Trengrove's request. On jumping away SKIING bounded and lost some ground. Near the 500metres SKIING had to be eased off the heels of GANGA.

When the gates opened CLASSIC ROSE bounded in the air. As G Clarke was to be overweight stewards permitted M Osmond to replace him as the rider of CHEQUE ATTACK. G Clarke was fined $50 for accepting a ride for which he was overweight (AR120 (b)).

When the gates opened ENTITLEMENT reared and lost ground. Near the 700metres RICHOTTO, BELLOTTO BOY and DELIRIUM came together. Stewards granted permission for P Shiers to ride 1 ½ Kilograms overweight on RICHOTTO, as there were no other available riders. P Shiers was reprimanded and notified that if he was to accept a ride outside his weight bracket in future he may be penalised.

At about the 500 metre mark STAR DAMSEL (G.Lefoe) rolled outwards, resulting in NYSTROM (W Sharp) having to be eased. Jockey B HUPPATZ, rider of ANTS which had performed below expectations stated to Stewards that the horse had raced well in the early stages of the race but from the 800 metre mark was under pressure and did not respond to his riding from that point. Trainer of ANTS, Mr K LAMPRECHT stated that he thought the horse would be competitive and he was disappointed with the run but could offer no reason. A veterinary examination of ANTS revealed no abnormalities. Explanations noted by Stewards.

POWER TO THE MAX (T Norton) jumped inwards as start effected bumping OUR FRISKY BOY (T Gillett). KOHATON (G LeFoe) raced greenly for the first 200 metres of the race. Approaching the 600 metre mark POWER TO THE MAX (T Norton) was momentarily tightened when OUR FRISKY BOY (T Gillett) shifted in slightly.

GO BRAGH (W Sharp) was slow to begin. Jockey B SWEENEY rider of MARCITY reported to Stewards that the gelding had felt very flat throughout the race and he had suggested to trainer Mr J CRONIN that the horse may be in need of a spell. A veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Subsequent to the event the clubs veterinary surgeon inspected PRESTIGIOUS which performed poorly and he reported that he could find no obvious signs of abnormalities.

A swab sample was taken from the winner of the race RICHOTTO.

The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected TEL EL SABA which had struck it’s head in the day stalls. The clubs veterinary surgeon reported the gelding had suffered an injury to it’s head and was unfit to start. Acting on this advise, stewards ordered the withdrawal of TEL EL SABA at 2.40pm.

Subsequent to the event stewards ordered all monies wagered on TEL EL SABA to be refunded and the following betting deductions. All monies wagered prior to the withdrawal of TEL EL SABA to be paid as follows- for the win, face value of the ticket less 8 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 9 cents in the dollar.

A routine swab sample was taken from the winner of the event EL SUROSO.

P Denton, rider of GREAT EAGLE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (AR137(a)). The careless riding being that near the 700 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of MERRY BEACH, thereby forcing that mare inwards and eventually having to be eased off GREAT EAGLES heels.

P Denton was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 14th September (2 meetings).

When the gates opened HIT AND HOPE jumped away awkwardly.

Stewards questioned D Bates, rider of EL SUROSO which performed below expectations. D Bates stated that the horse blew considerably on pulling up which suggested that it may have been too fresh today. He also stated that he believed that the gelding normally raced further back in the field than it did today which also indicated it may have been too fresh.

The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected EL SUROSO subsequent to the event and reported that he could find no apparent abnormality. A urine sample was taken from EL SUROSO.

S Brownbill (a), rider of CHECK OR BET notified the stewards that he would be unable to ride at his MRW and that he would be ½ kg over the geldings’s declared weight. As connections were prepared to allow him to ride ½ kg overweight stewards granted permission for him to ride ½ kg overweight. S Brownbill was fined $250 for failing to ride at his MRW (NT91).

Shortly after the start KARESHIM and DAVE’S CHANCE came together and KARESHIM dipped. Some strides later KARESHIM had to be eased off DAVES’ CHANCE’s heels when that gelding rolled out slightly.

RACE TWO 3YO CLASS 3 HCP – 12OO M

Over the concluding stages BELIEVE IN VICTORY had a tendency to shift out.

As C Lever did not arrive on course to fulfill his engagement on SCAFFOLD stewards permitted R Thompson to replace him.

Near the 1100 metres GLITTER BUG rolled in and bumped SCAFFOLD. For a distance after this incident GLITTER BUG and SCAFFOLD raced tight and made contact on several occassions. S Burrows, rider of JACKAWARRA was found guilty of a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that approaching the 900 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of BRIGHT VISION thereby taking that gelding in onto TJILPI and in turn onto TRACERY and GLITTERBUG. As a result GLITTER BUG had to be checked and in so doing clipped the heels of SCAFFFOLD and TRACERY had to be checked and in so doing clipped the heels of TJILPI and fell. S Burrows was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 7th August, 2002 (3 racemeetings).

Shortly after the start LUST NO MORE was tightened by GILDED STAR which was taken in by EL CARTERO which rolled in after being bumped by HEROIC BOY.

Near the 900 metres GENERAL TONG had to be eased off the heels of KUERTEN which shifted out. Racing to the first turn GENERAL TONG had to be restrained when there was no room to improve.

Rounding the turn near the 600 metres FRISK ME (NZ) had a tendency to get it’s head up and hang out.

Near the 450 metres HEROIC BOY was tightened for room between GENERAL TONG which rolled out on GILDED STAR.

At the entrance to the straight GENERAL TONG was taken out by LUST NO MORE which shifted out to obtain a clear run.

Mr A Trengrove, trainer of FRISK ME (NZ) was fined $30 for presenting that gelding in the mounting yard without blinkers when it is approved to race in that gear (AR140(a)).

Near the 600 metres STORMY BAY had a tendency to lay out and had to be eased off the heels of ZEDROVSKI. As a result STORMY BAY shifted out and tightened KU RING GAI CHASE.

GRAND JUDGE was eased down by it’s rider and the club’s veterinary surgeon reported that the gelding was lame in the near foreleg.

Approaching the first turn INDIAN RIDGE was tightened for room between GARLANDTOWN MOON and SCINTILATOR which shifted out. This resulted in INDIAN RIDGGE and GARLANDTOWN MOON making contact and GARLANDTOWN MOON’s hindquarters being turned. Shortly after this BOZEMAN was taken in by GREY DESERT (D Oliver) and tightened GARLANDTOWN MOON for a short distance. As a result GARLANDTOWN MOON was badly inconvenienced and INDIAN RIDGE was hampered. Whilst stewards held no one rider fully responsible, D Oliver was reprimanded and notified that he must ensure he is 2 lengths clear prior to shifting ground.

Pre race swabs were taken from BRAVE DECISION, GREY DESERT and BOZEMAN.

When the gates opened GLITTER BUG jumped awkwardly and bumped BELLOTTO BOY on the hindquarters.

G Clarke, rider of TOMMY TEE reported that the gelding hung out for the majority of the race. In the straight BELLOTTO BOY hung in when it’s rider D Bates attempted to ride it forward and for this reason D Bates was unable to ride BELLOTTO BOY out in his normal manner.

In the straight PERAK SILVER (NZ) hung in which prevented it’s rider D Bates from riding the gelding out in his normal manner.

On arrival at the course COSEVEIN, was examined by the club’s veterinary surgeon after the trainer reported the gelding had suffered a stone bruise earlier in the week. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected COSEVEIN and passed it fit to run.

On jumping away DELIRIUM shifted in onto CHECK OR BET taking that gelding inwards across the heels of KU RING GAI CHASE.

In the middle stages of the race the saddle on KU RING GAI CHASE shifted which placed D Bates at a disadvantage for the remainder of the race.

B Davis (a), rider of GLENBOLT was reprimanded for his use of the whip on that gelding.

On jumping away THERMAL jumped inwards onto CHEQUE ATACK and made contact with that gelding’s hindquarters which turned CHEQUE ATTACK outwards. Also SILENT IMPOSE shifted in abruptly and a result THERMAL was tightened for room between SILENT IMPOSE and CHEQUE ATTACK. TEL EL SABA which shifted in abruptly then made contact with SILENT IMPOSE a few strides after the start.

In the middle stages of the race ARI BANU overraced and rounding the turn had a tendancy to hang out.

S Brownbill (a) rider of NASERIO returned to scale 1 kilogram over his declared weight. It was established that after weighing out, a girth cover was added to the gear carried by NASEIRO by Mr J Cerci, stable foreman for trainer D Leech. Mr Leech was fined $100 as the trainer of NASEIRO whose gear was added to by his staff after the jockey had weighed (AR118A).

During the event WARISAN lost it’s off fore plate.

The start of the race was delayed due to LORD ERSKINE having to be resaddled as gear on the gelding broke prior to it leaving the mounting yard.

Mr S Clarke, trainer of DELIRUM was fined $50 for nominating that gelding for this event when ineligible (AR 64).

Mr D Leech , trainer of CRESTER was fined $50 for nominating that gelding for this event when ineligible.(AR 64).

When the gates opened SPECTOR was slow into stride.

Near the 800 metres MOSSE had to be eased off the heels of MYTH which rolled out.

Mr A Trengrove, trainer of SHE’S GOT FLAIR presented that filly without a tongue tie which it is approved to race with. Mr Trengrove stated that he did not include the tongue tie on his stable return. Mr Trengrove was notified that the filly last raced in a tongue tie and as he did not lodge a stable return removing that gear the filly must race in a tongue tie today.

Subsequent to the event he clubs veterinary surgeon inspected KELTIC KID and NIGHT VISION. He reported that KELTIC KID had suffered a minor injury to its eye and that NIGHT VISION pulled up sore in the hindquarters.

1st STRATEGIC FEELING 2nd MYTH 3rd MOSSE

As P Shiers was to be overweight, stewards permitted R Thompson to replace him as the rider of OAKLEIGH BOY. Stewards accepted his explaination as to his reason for being overweight.

When the gates opened SONG OF RIO jumped away awkwardly.

Rounding the first turn PINON raced ungenerously.

Near the 500 metres WICKED LOVE had to be eased off the heels of SOLTRICE which weakened quickly.

During the race WICKED LOVE lost a plate.

After being placed in the barriers SKIING broke through the front gates and cantered for some distance. After he was reboxed SKIING again broke through and dislodged it’s rider C Lever and galloped a considerable distance. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SKIING at 3.05pm.

On jumping away NASEIRO shifted in and bumped HALIFAX into FOREVER JUDE turning that geldings hindquarters.

Subsequent to the event stewards ordered all monies wagered on SKIING to be refunded and the following betting deductions. All monies wagered prior to the withdrawal of SKIING to be paid as follows; for the win, face value of the ticket less 37 cents in the dollar, for the place, face value of the ticket less 31 cents in the dollar.

The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected HALIFAX subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding pulled up in a distressed state and that it may be suffering from mild colic.

On jumping away HIGH REVS jumped inwards and tightened BUTKUS in on to MASINDOR which resulted in BUTKUS having to be checked. Also JEREMIAH BULLFROG jumped inwards onto RADICAL and bumped it in onto BEAU MASTER.

G Clarke lodged a complaint and requested that he be paid a winning\losing riding fee from the connections of MASINDOR. G Clarke stated that he believed he had an engagement for the ride on MASINDOR in the Palmerston Sprint. After taking evidence from G Clarke and Ms J Robinson trainer of MASINDOR, stewards ruled that G Clarke was entitled to a winning\losing riding fee.

Near the 900 metres GALLIC CHIEF had to be eased off the heels of SON OF GRACE when tightened for room by KUERTEN (S Burrows). S Burrows was reprimanded and notified that he must ensure he is two lengths clear in future.

Near the 450 metres BATHERS raced ungenerously for several strides on the inside of GALLIC CHIEF.

Approaching the winning post JEREMIAH BULLFROG was disappointed for a clear run.

Pre race swabs were taken from BUTKUS, BATHERS and KUERTEN.

COPPER'S EDGE (P Johnson) was slow to begin. SKYE KAYJOY (G Lefoe) shifted outwards just after the start.

Jockey G LEFOE rider of SKYE KAYJOY reported to Stewards that the mare was inclined to hang out throughout the race.

COPPER'S EDGE (P Johnson) had difficulty in obtaining a clear run in the straight.

KARESHIM (B Huppatz) and MARCITY (P Johnson) came together at the winning post.

Jockey B CORNELL was permitted by Stewards to ride SIR ROMEO 2kg overweight when no other rider was available.

LOCKMASTER was examined by the Veterinarian after being kicked by another runner at the barrier. LOCKMASTER was passed fit to run.

BONJOUR DOLLY (M Cornell) jumped inwards at start bumping SATYR KING (W Sharp).

Approaching the 1200M mark MR. CAGNEY (T Gillett), SATYR KING (W Sharp), WORSHIPS A DRINK (P Johnson), LOCKMASTER (G Lefoe) all were inconvenienced.

Subsequent to the race Stewards charged Jockey M CORNELL, rider of BONJOUR DOLLY under ARR137a with Careless Riding. The careless riding being that he allowed his mount to shift inwards approaching the 1200M mark resulting in SATYR KING (W Sharp) and WORSHIPS A DRINK (P Johnson), MR. CAGNEY (T Gillett) and LOCKMASTER (G Lefoe) all to be severely hampered.

Stewards considered that BONJOUR DOLLY may have contributed to the interference but they were of the opinion that Jockey M CORNELL did not make a great enough effort to relieve the pressure on those horses on his inside. Jockey M CORNELL pleaded Not Guilty to the charge. After deliberation
Stewards found M CORNELL guilty as charged and suspended his licence from 17/8/02 up to and to include 7/9/02 (2 Alice Springs meetings) .

On return to the enclosure it was observed that SATYR KING had his tongue over the bit.

GO VINNIE GO came into contact with the gate when leaving the mounting yard. The horse was examined by the Vet on arrival at the barrier and was passed fit to race.

BLARNEY BOY was examined by the Vet after being kicked by another runner and was passed fit to race.

At about the 500M mark FOREVER JUDE was momentarily tightened for room when CHALET'S MAGIC shifted ground slightly.
