When the gates opened CHILL FACTOR jumped outwards.

After jumping away slowly NEGEV bumped with SPLIT DECISIOON and became unbalanced.

Rounding the turn SPLIT DECISION had a tendency to lay out.

Near the 150 metres PIRATE OF PENZANCE had a tendency to lay in and as a result had to be eased off the heels of NAN’S LORD.

Stewards questioned D Bates, rider of NEGEV in relation the geldings performance today.  D Bates stated that after being tardy away the gelding then was unable to keep in touch in the middle stages and had a tendency to hang out rounding the turn.  D Bates further stated that NEGEV began to make ground from the 600 metres until just prior to the winning post.

Race 22YO SET WEIGHTS - 1000 metres:

After arriving at the barriers, D Bates was dislodged from BIG FLAMING RED, which then galloped for some distance prior to being caught.  As BIG FLAMING RED had galloped for some distance, stewards ordered the withdrawal of BIG FLAMING RED at 2.17pm.  Subsequent to the event stewards ordered all monies wagered on BIG FLAMING RED to be refunded and the following betting deductions.  All monies wagered prior to the withdrawal of BIG FLAMING RED to be paid as follows:- for the win, face value of the ticket less 16 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 18 cents in the dollar.

Race 33YO CLASS 3 HCP - 1200 metres:

On arrival at the course Mr S Clarke, trainer of UNDUE requested the club’s veterinary surgeon inspect that gelding.  The club’s veterinary surgeon, having inspected the gelding declared it fit to start.

When the gates opened WHERE’S DA IVORY jumped awkwardly and SILK WIND stumbled.

Shortly after the start SILK WIND eased momentarily off the heels of ORIENTAL CHEF which shifted in.

Approaching the first turn SILK WIND had to shift in to avoid UNDUE which shifted in abruptly.

C Lever, rider of SILK WIND reported to the stewards that his mount had a tendency to hang out during the race.

Ms A White, trainer of CANNY’S CHOICE reported that the gelding was slightly distressed after the race. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected CANNY’S CHOICE subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was suffering from mild colic.

Mr M Dwyer, trainer of COOLGARDIE was fined $50 for presenting that gelding with incorrect gear (AR140(a)).

When the gates opened MANDATE stumbled and lost ground.

Shortly after the start COOLGARDIE shifted out taking TOP SQUIRE out onto FOR RORY resulting in FOR RORY and TOP SQUIRE being tightened for room between COOLGARDIE and BEAU MASTER which shifted in slightly.

Rounding the first turn MANDATE had a tendency to hang out.

Race 6ROANT CUP - 1300 metres:

Shortly after the start GUNNEL shifted out and tightened SOLARIO out onto ACELA.

At the turn near the 650 metres SIR KINDLE (NZ) hung out and had to be checked off the heels of NOT ABANDONED and lost ground as a consequence.  Near the 600 metres LANSON had to be eased off the heels of SIR KINDLE (NZ) which was weakening.

Stewards issued a warning against PELT as the gelding was difficult to load into the barriers and held up the start.  Mr K Lamprecht, trainer of PELT will be notified that prior to the gelding racing again it must perform satisfactorily in a trial.

Jockey C Moon was fined $50 for presenting himself late in the mounting yard despite being requested on a number of occasions to present himself.

For some strides after the start SWEPSCAY threw its head up and raced ungenerously.

Near the 200 metres SUNBLOCK was tightened for room for a short distance by I SCREAM which rolled in slightly.

Stewards today took evidence from Mr G Hughes in relation to a fine imposed upon licensed stablehand Ms L Hughes under NT107 on Saturday 11 June, 2005.  After hearing the explanation offered by Mr Hughes, stewards accepted the explanation and rescinded the fine imposed on that day.

On jumping away RESTLESS LEGS shifted out and took BY HOW FRAAR out onto DESERT REEF.  MR BRITTAS also shifted out onto SPIN DUSTY.

Mr K Lamprecht, trainer of DESERT REEF which was difficult to load in the barriers, was notified that the stewards would in future take a stricter approach to horses which are difficult to load and issue warnings against them unless there were extenuating circumstances.

When the gates opened BOX OFFICE STAR was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start GALAXADIA, which was slow to begin was hampered by EMBOSSED which shifted in.

Ms A White, trainer of EARTH GOLD, which performed poorly was notified that a warning would be issued against the filly for being uncompetitive.

D Coffey, rider of GAY DECEPTION was found guilty of a charge of careless riding AR137 (a).  The careless riding being that near the 200 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of EMBOSSED resulting in EMBOSSED having to be checked.  D Coffey was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 2nd July, 2005 (2 meetings).

Stewards questioned Ms T Perry, rider of BOX OFFICE STAR which hung out.  Ms Perry stated that the tongue tie had become ineffective during the race and this may have been the reason for it hanging.

Subsequent to the event the clubs veterinary surgeon reported that BLUEGRASS PAINTER had tied up mildly.

Race 8OPEN HCP - 1600 metres:

Rounding the first turn SUNTURWASI had to be eased when racing tight on the inside of EL SUROSO which was racing tight on the inside of BRIGHT VISION.

Stewards questioned P Denton, rider of SUNTURWASI who stated that the mare had performed disappointingly.  He stated that he commenced to ride forward from the 700 metres however SUNTURWASI never really improved and in the straight and failed to make any ground however appeared to pull up alright.  The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected SUNTURWASI subsequent to the event and reported that he could find no apparent abnormality.

Race 10CLASS 4 HCP - 1000 metres:

Mr B Merrall, trainer of SPRUIK was fined $30 for failing to declare a rider for that horse by the prescribed time NT129 (c).

Near the 600 metres ZETEGIC was hampered when tightened for room between HIGHER SCORE and NABERZOX which shifted out abruptly.

The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected NABERZOX subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding had lacerations to the hind leg.

B Huppatz, rider of ALTO EGO was found guilty of a charge of careless riding AR137 (a).  The careless riding being that shortly after the start he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of FULL OF HONOUR resulting in FULL OF HONOUR having to be eased to avoid ALTO EGO’S heels.  B Huppatz was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 25 June, 2005 (1 meeting).

S Ridler, rider of SPRUIK was found guilty of a charge of careless riding AR137 (a).  The careless riding being that shortly after the start he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of ENDAMON taking that mare in onto ZETEGIC and it in turn onto NABERZOX.  As a result ENDAMON had to be severely checked, ZETEGIC had to be checked and NABERZOX was hampered.  S Ridler was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 2 July, 2004 (2 meetings).  Prior to this interference occurring KOMON ACCORD had to be eased off the heels of SPRUIK.  As a result of the interference when NABERZOX was hampered it bumped CHILTON on the hindquarters.

Race 11CLASS 6 HCP - 1200 metres:

Stewards questioned D Bates, trainer of HOWDY KEN which was a late scratching at 10.55 am this morning.  D Bates stated that the gelding was shod yesterday and he believed it may be slightly tender in the hoof so he elected to work it this morning and wait until it cooled down to see if it was lame.  After cooling down, which was after the 8.30 am scratching time he believed that although HOWDY KEN was not lame, the hoof was not 100 percent and that HOWDY KEN would not perform at its best, therefore should be scratched.  Stewards accepted the explanation given by Mr Bates, however notified him that in future he should ensure he is satisfied of his horses fitness and condition prior to the 8.30 am scratching time.

Near the 600 metres CELTIC DANE had to be eased off the heels of GOLD IDEAL which shifted in slightly.

Near the 500 metres, IF YOU SAY SO which was improving, had to change course abruptly to avoid the heels of GOLD IDEAL which was shifting ground as it was weakening.

SMYTER'S STORM and DO WHAT WE DO bumped as start effected. Jockey G LEFOE, rider of CROWNE PILOT lost his stirrup iron approaching the 1200 metre mark and was placed at a disadvantage from that point on. BROTHER HENRY hung out around the 1200 metre turn.

WILD MOMENT jumped outwards bumping START QUEST who was forced onto LITIGIOUS. GAELIC DANCE jumped inwards onto LITIGIOUS. AROUSER raced wide throughout the race. GAELIC DANCE cast a plate in the run.

Race NT 6 – CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1100 metres:

FUNTEGIC jumped awkwardly as start effected. Approaching the 600 metre mark SARATOGA BOY had to be checked when PSEUDONAJA shifted in. Apprentice M HART, rider of PSEUDONAJA was warned by Stewards that he must ensure that he is clear before shifting ground in future. At about the 50 metre mark PSEUDONAJA shifted in suddenly bumping TOP VALUE. FUNTEGIC was blocked for a clear run in the final stages of the race.

Race 1CLASS 3 HCP - 1200 metres:

Approaching the 700 metres KELTRICK shifted out taking STUN GUN out onto I SCREAM.  As a result I SCREAM had to ease and in so doing hampered MODERN GLORY.  Shortly after this I SCREAM rolled in and hampered VALIANT LAD. 

For some distance commencing at the first turn MODERN GLORY was held up for a clear run.

Approaching the winning post SKYY GREY was struck on the nose by the whip of G Wyndham, rider of KELTRICK.

C Moon, rider of WASN’T IT GOOD was questioned regarding that mare being held up for a run in the straight.  C Moon stated that he believed there was a run on the inside on MANSMAHMOUD at the top of the straight and when he was committed to taking the run he continued to ride forward.  Stewards notified C Moon that in their opinion there was not sufficient room on the inside of MANSMAHMOUD for him to obtain a run and he should have sought an alternative option rather than continuing to ride into a dead end.

Stewards questioned Ms V Arnott, rider of MOONLIGHT EXPRESS as to the reason for racing wide rounding the turn.  Ms Arnott stated that when the gelding felt the sand being thrown up by the other runners it began to hang out and did so for the entire turn.  Further that when she had ridden the gelding previously she was able to lead.

W Stacey (a), rider of SWEPSCAY was found guilty of a charge of careless riding AR137 (a).  The careless riding being that near the 1000 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of MODERN GLORY which resulted in  MODERN GLORY  having to be checked.  W Stacey (a) was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 18 June 2005 (1 meeting).  The stewards took into account W Stacey’s good riding record when determining the penalty.

The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected WASN’T IT GOOD subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the off fore leg.  Ms L Williams, trainer of WASN’T IT GOOD was notified that a veterinary certificate of soundness would be required before the mare raced again (AR8(t)).

Mr B Merrall was questioned regarding the stable returns for SPLIT DECISION and CLASSIC COVER.

Ms T Halter, representing Mr B Halter, trainer of CHILL FACTOR notified the stewards at 8.35am that CHILL FACTOR was lame and unfit to start.  Acting of her advice stewards permitted the late withdrawal of CHILL FACTOR at 8.45am and applied the scratching fee of $100.

When the gates opened NANNA’SHANDSOMEBOY bounded and lost ground.

On jumping away KING OF CARDS and RED BOSS bumped.

Mr B Merrall, trainer of EXTRAORDINARY was charged under AR175 (K) with negligence that could have led to a breach of the rules.  The negligence being that his staff brought a horse reportedly named PIRATE OF PENZANCE into the saddling paddock instead of EXTRAORDINARY.  Stewards established that the wrong horse had been brought to the course when stewards went to expect EXTRAORDINARY and found that the Document of Description did not correspond to the horse.  Mr Merrall returned to his stables and EXTRAORDINARY was then brought to the course.  Mr Merrall explained that he believed the two horses were put in the wrong boxes on Friday 10 June and that was how the mistake occurred.  Stewards fined Mr Merrall the sum of $500.

Ms L Williams, trainer of TELEPRINT, OREGON EXPRESS and PRINCE GEORGIOS was fined $100 for presenting those horses late on course (NT128A).

Stewards questioned W Stacey (a), rider of second placegetter TENACIOUS regarding his use of the whip.  W Stacey (a) was reminded of his obligations under AR 137A.

Routine drug tests were conducted on jockeys M Morita (a), G Wyndham and C Moon.

Trainer Ms L Williams was interviewed regarding one of her staff not wearing proper footwear whilst leading a horse at the stables which did not have a bit in its mouth to afford proper control.  Ms Williams stated that the horse was being taken from the wash down bay to the yards and she does not normally put bits in their mouth when doing so.  Ms Williams was notified that AR 87A (2) requires that all horses being led outside the confines of her stable must have a bit in their mouth attached to a lead.  Further that all her staff when working with horses must have appropriate foot wear on.

Ms L Hughes, registered stablehand was fined $50 (NT107) for not displaying her current registration card.

Stewards questioned Mr B Merrall, trainer of PIRATE OF PENZANCE, regarding the reason for its withdrawal this morning.  Mr Merrall stated that the gelding was fine yesterday afternoon when taken out and walked, however when taken out of its stable this morning at approximately 7.45am it was lame.  Stewards accepted the explanation of Mr Merrall.

When the gates opened STUN GUN bounded and was slow away.  Shortly after the start STUN GUN threw its head up for a number of strides.

Rounding the turn TEE CEE LOAN SHARK (NZ) had a tendency to lay out and in the straight raced greenly and shifted in when struck with the whip.  Mr B Merrall, trainer of TEE CEE LOAN SHARK (NZ) was notified that in the steward’s opinion he should engage a senior rider to ride the horse until it races more tractably.

Mr D Park, trainer of SHODIYM which was uncompetitive in today’s race, was notified that if it was to perform in a similar manner in future some action may be taken against it.

Stewards questioned P Crich, rider of POTESTAS, which performed below expectations.  P Crich stated that the gelding travelled well until about the 500 metres when he attempted to go forward with GUNNEL and from that point onwards failed to improve.  Mr B Merrall, trainer of POTESTAS stated that he could offer no explanation other than the fact that its form over 1600 metres has been disappointing, further than that the horse had worked well and done everything right prior to today. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected POTESTAS subsequent to the event and reported that other than blowing hard he could find no apparent abnormality.

Registered stablehands W Beaumont and G Browder were both interviewed after stewards received a complaint from the car park attendant who stated that they entered the course without the appropriate identification and both were abusive towards her.  Mr Beaumont and Mr Browder were both notified that such conduct will not be tolerated and that in future they must ensure that they have the appropriate identification when attending the course.

Just after straightening REGAL ROSE had to be eased and change course when BEL DE FERRO shifted in slightly. B CORNELL, rider of BEL DE FERRO was warned by Stewards that he must ensure that he is sufficiently clear before shifting ground in future.

Jockey B CORNELL, rider of NOT ABANDONED reported to Stewards that his mount was inclined to lay out from the 1200 metre mark until the home turn and then when put under pressure in the straight began to lay in. NOT ABANDONED cast his near hind plate in the run.

FUNTEGIC stumbled as start effected. CROWNE PILOT was slow into stride. LYSCENE became unbalanced rounding the home turn and then drifted out in the final stages of the race. FUNTEGIC suffered a cut to its near hind pastern in the run.

LITIGIOUS slow into stride. LITIGIOUS and AROUSER came together shortly after the start. Subsequent to the race jockey B CORNELL, rider of HOT CHILLI WOMAN requested to view the photo finish of the race. After doing so B CORNELL agreed with the Judge’s decision and correct weight was declared. Apprentice M HART, rider of AROUSER reported to Stewards that his mount was under hard riding for the entire race.

Race 2class 3 hcp - 1000 metres:

Mr B Merrall, trainer of FULL OF HONOUR was fined $50 for failing to lodge a stable return for that horse showing the correct owners and colours as required under NT56.

On the way to the barriers MANSMAHMOUD ran into the outside running rail and dislodged its rider S Hillebrand (a).  MANSMAHMOUD was inspected by the club’s veterinary surgeon and passed fit to run.

When the gates opened TWENTYONE GUN and STUN GUN were slow to begin and came together.

Near the 900 metres STUN GUN bucked and dislodged its rider M Osmond.  Mr K Lamprecht, trainer of STUN GUN was notified that a warning would be issued against the mare and that if it was to perform in this manner again it may be suspended for a period.

Rounding the turn TWENTYONE GUN hung out badly.  S Ridler, rider of the filly stated that when he eased slightly down the back straight the filly began to hang and then did so for the remainder of the race.  Mr A Trengrove, trainer of TWENTYONE GUN was notified that a warning would be issued against the filly and that if it was to perform in this manner again it may be suspended for a period.

Rounding the home turn MODERN GLORY was held up for a run.

Over the concluding stages FULL OF HONOUR shifted out towards MODERN GLORY.

Approaching the winning post MODERN GLORY attempted to savage FULL OF HONOUR.

Prior to correct weight being declared, Mr L Houldsworth, trainer of second placed horse MODERN GLORY requested permission to view the head on video.

Near the 1100 metres SEXCELLS eased out over the heels of UNDUE. 

S Ridler, rider of SEXCELLS was found guilty of a charge of reckless riding (AR137(a)).  The reckless riding being that after passing the 900 metres he turned his horses head in and shifted in across the running of UNDUE when about ½ a length in front of that gelding, thereby forcing that gelding to be checked severely.  S Ridler was suspended from riding for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 11 June, 2005. (4 race meetings)

Stewards interviewed Mr S Clarke, trainer of UNDUE in relation to the scratching of that gelding prior to 8.30 today.  Mr Clarke stated that it UNDUE had received a small wound on Tuesday 24 May and was treated by veterinary surgeon Mr J Farebrother on that day.  The gelding had worked each day since and was treated again on Friday 27 May by Mr Farebrother.  Mr Farebrother had again examined the gelding this morning and had advised Mr Clarke that there was a risk of injuring the gelding further if it raced today.  Upon receiving that advise, Mr Clarke scratched the gelding immediately.  Mr Clarke was notified that his explanation would be accepted on this occasion however was reminded of his obligation under NT128 (b) regarding the notifying of stewards as soon as practicable after an injury comes to his notice.

At the start NEGEV reared in the air. 

On jumping away THY SPUR jumped out into WITCH WAY WEST, which in turn forced SEXCELLS out onto NEGEV, NOCH ON ICE also jumped out into BOSS BEAR.

Approaching the turn at the 650 metres BOSS BEAR rolled in causing SPADES to be eased and lose ground.

At about the 500 metres THY SPUR lost its near side plate.

Stewards fined trainer Ms A White $50 for allowing stablehand C Nash to not display his current registration card in accordance with NT107.

When the gates opened, CHEESECAKE and SEABISC were slow into stride.

Rounding the home turn VLTAVA lost his footing and slipped on an area of damp surface on the track, resulting in that gelding almost falling.  DRYMAHI and SEABISC also slipped on the same area of the track.  After the race B Davis (a), rider of VLTAVA advised stewards he did not wish to ride for the remainder of the day as in his opinion the track was unsafe rounding the home turn.  S Ridler, rider of DRYMAHI also expressed his opinion that the track during this race was unsafe rounding the home turn.  Following consultation with the other riders and an inspection of the track, stewards advised jockeys to take additional care for the remainder of the meeting and to give each other extra room.
