Race 11CLASS 6 HCP - 1200 metres:

Stewards questioned D Bates, trainer of HOWDY KEN which was a late scratching at 10.55 am this morning.  D Bates stated that the gelding was shod yesterday and he believed it may be slightly tender in the hoof so he elected to work it this morning and wait until it cooled down to see if it was lame.  After cooling down, which was after the 8.30 am scratching time he believed that although HOWDY KEN was not lame, the hoof was not 100 percent and that HOWDY KEN would not perform at its best, therefore should be scratched.  Stewards accepted the explanation given by Mr Bates, however notified him that in future he should ensure he is satisfied of his horses fitness and condition prior to the 8.30 am scratching time.
