Race 1MAIDEN S/W - 1100 metres:

Ms L Gillett, trainer of ONETHOUSANDSTRONG was fined $20 for using club colours on that gelding.

The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected EFF ONE subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the near fore leg.

Stewards questioned Ms A White, trainer of TAFFETA’S BEST regarding that gelding which performed poorly today.  The club veterinary surgeon also inspected TAFFETA’S BEST and reported that the gelding had pulled up distressed.  Stewards notified Ms White that a warning would be issued against the gelding and if it was to perform in a similar manner again it may be suspended from racing.

Race 22YO S/W - 1000 metres:

Mr B Merrall, trainer of BOUND BY FAITH and DANCING BLADE was fined $50 each for presenting both of those geldings with incorrect gear (AR140(a))

When the gates opened DANCING BLADE was slow to begin.

On jumping away ALEXANDERS SONG came in onto BOUND BY FAITH.

Rounding the first turn ALEXANDERS VALLEY had a tendency to hang out.

Near the 500 metres COMPOSITE rolled out and ALEXANDERS VALLEY rolled in resulting in those horses coming together.  CHEST, which was racing on the outside of COMPOSITE was taken out and in doing so clipped the heels of COMPOSITE and knuckled.  As a consequence C Moon, the rider of CHEST was dislodged.

As C Moon had been stood down by the stewards the following rider changes were permitted:-

Race 3CLASS 6 HCP - 1000 metres:

Shortly after the start CATMAN shifted out and tightened ABRA out onto AMBERLIGHT which then was tightened by RANKS which shifted in.

Near the winning post CATMAN rolled out and bumped MANDATE.

The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected CATMAN subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding had pulled up in a distressed state.

Race 4CLASS 3 HCP - 1200 metres:

When the gates opened SUPER SLIDER was slow to begin.

Near the 650 metres MOONLIGHT EXPRESS was tightened for room by I SCREAM which hung in.  As a result of being tightened, MOONLIGHT EXPRESS shifted out and knuckled loosing considerable ground.  EYE EYE SIR which was following was hampered as a consequence.

Approaching the winning post I SCREAM was crowded for room when attempting to take a tight run between LEAVE ME OUT and SPRUIK which shifted in slightly.

Race 5CLASS 2 HCP - 1600 metres:

As B Davis (a) was indisposed stewards permitted the following rider changes:-

Near the 1200 metre PATARCHIE had to be eased off the heels of SCHOBI BARU which shifted in to the rail.

Race 6CHIEF MINISTER CUP - 1600 metres:

Approaching the first turn SIR KINDLE (NZ), which was tightened for room slightly by SOLARIO got its head up and raced ungenerously for some distance.

Stewards questioned B Huppatz, rider of KARESHIM which weakened badly.  B Huppatz stated that the gelding layed in for the majority of the race and was a beaten horse a long way from home.  Further that he could offer no explanation for its performance today.  The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected KARESHIM subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the off fore leg.

Subsequent to the event the clubs veterinary surgeon inspected RACER’S SUCCESS which performed poorly and reported that he could find no apparent abnormality.

Race 7 - WFA - 1200 metres:

Mr B Halter, trainer of BEAU MASTER was fined $50 for presenting that gelding late in the mounting yard (NT128A).

On jumping away SHADOW BOXER shifted out and hampered BEAU MASTER, GENERAL SWAMP and CASHKALANI and took SACRED SHIELD outwards.

Stewards questioned Mr G Clarke, rider and trainer of SACRED SHIELD regarding that gelding which performed poorly today.  Mr Clarke stated he could offer no explanation for the gelding’s poor performance other than it had minor inflammation in its fetlock joint some time ago and that it may have reappeared.  The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected SACRED SHIELD subsequent to the event and reported that he could find no apparent abnormality.  A swab sample was taken from SACRED SHIELD.  Mr Clarke reported to the stewards subsequent to the raceday that SACRED SHIELD had been unwell and the veterinary surgeon believed that it may have a viral infection.
