Victorian Solves Alice Carnival 'Riddles'

Cranbourne based jockey Stephen Ridler completed the feature Alice Springs Cup Carnival weekend double when he piloted the outsider Solario to victory in today's $76,750 Alice Springs Cup (2000m) at Pioneer Park.

Ridler won two races at the track on Saturday including the rich Pioneer Sprint aboard the Covetous galloper Al Tayar.

Today Ridler was at his very best giving the Geoff and Beryl White bred Solario ($15) a perfect ride as he cruised home a three quarter length winner.

In the run to the line the five-year-old son of Interstellar packed too many guns - shooting down Edge to Edge ($8) who snuck clear approaching the turn but had had enough on the line.

Smiling Eyes ($7), with star South Aussie female hoop Clare Lindop up, made good ground over the concluding stages to sneak up between runners to run a close third.

The winner is prepared by popular local horseman Nev Connor.

The race favourite Duchovny ($2.50) was never in the hunt and appeared to be under an injury cloud when he tailed the field home.

Multiple Group One winning Melbourne based rider Greg Childs won the jockey's invitation race earlier in the afternoon aboard the hot favourite Edging Around.

Former South Australian hoop Tim Norton took riding honours on the day with a winning double. He was victorious aboard Bellanto in race one and Chigwidden in the fourth race.

Another former South Aussie rider Ben Grimston was a winner aboard the Blevic gelding Tjilpi, while yet another former crow rider Ann-Marie White continued her impressive form since switching to training when she won with Queen of the North - ridden by partner Paul Denton.
