RACE FOUR CLASS 5 HCP – 11OO M

As P Shiers, was to be overweight, the following rider changes were permitted;
Race 4 LA BON TON (NZ) - P Denton
Race 8 MANTIS - M Osmond
Race 9 BROOKLYN BULLET - F Edwards

Stewards accepted the explanation of P Shiers for being overweight however reprimanded him and notified him that a repetition would almost certainly see a penalty imposed.

En route to the barriers COSEVEIN became fractious and struck the running rail. On arrival at the barriers COSEVEIN was inspected by the club’s veterinary surgeon who reported that the gelding had cut it’s near hind leg and was unfit to start. Acting on the advice of the club’s veterinary surgeon, stewards ordered the withdrawal of COSEVEIN at 2.26pm. Subsequent to the event stewards ordered all monies wagered on COSEVEIN to be refunded and the following betting deductions. All monies wagered prior to the withdrawal of COSEVEIN to be paid as follows- for the win, face value of the ticket less 13 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 16 cents in the dollar.

Shortly after the start FULL GALLOP shifted in onto LA BON TON (NZ) which had been slow away.

Rounding the turn DEE VEE DEE had a tendency to lay out.

Approaching the winning post ALL PO shifted out abruptly. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected ALL PO subsequent to the event and reported that the gelding was lame in the off hind leg.

Stewards questioned G Clarke, rider of DEE VEE DEE about that mare’s performance. G Clarke stated that he could offer no explanation other than the gelding blew a bit on pulling up. S Brown, the mare’s trainer stated that he did not expect it to win today as he believed it was weighted too high in this class of race. The clubs veterinary surgeon inspected DEE VEE DEE subsequent to the event and reported that he could find no apparent abnormality.

RACE SIX CLASS 2 HCP – 1OOO M

When the gates opened TARCOOLA MAGIC jumped away awkwardly and shifted in bumping LEGAL REWARD. Shortly after this AIM TO PLEASE shifted in and made contact with TARCOOLA MAGIC.

Stewards questioned S Brownbill (a), rider of TARCOOLA MAGIC about that horses disappointing performance. S Brownbill (a) stated that TARCOOLA MAGIC was a beaten horse on the home turn and he could offer no explanation. S Brown, the horses’ trainer stated that the stable supported TARCOOLA MAGIC and he could not offer any explanation.

During the event LEGAL REWARD suffered an attack of bleeding.

RACE EIGHT CLASS D HCP – 11OO M

When the gates opened MANISTEE threw it’s head up and was slow into stride.

Near the 1000 metres GREAT EAGLE shifted in and bumped HASTY RHYTHM which rolled out slightly. As a result both GREAT EAGLE and HASTY RHYTHM were hampered.

ARINNA hung badly for the majority of the race. L Williams, the filly’s trainer was notified that if it was to perform in a similar manner in future it may be suspended from racing.

G Clarke, trainer of CHEQUE ATTACK which was scratched from this event due to it being lame in the near foreleg was questioned regarding the circumstances surrounding the scratching. G Clarke stated that the gelding galloped on Wednesday and was lunged on Thursday and showed no sign of soreness, however when he lunged the gelding on Friday it was sore in the near foreleg. Stewards accepted the explanation of G Clarke in respect of the scratching of CHEQUE ATTACK.

RACE NINE OPEN HCP – 13OO M

In the straight HI TAIL had a tendency to lay in which necessitated it’s rider (S Brownbill (a)) to stop riding and straighten it on a number of occassions.

RACE TEN CLASS 4 HCP – 15OO M

When the gates opened PROSPECTOR KING was slow to jump away.

On jumping away GELNBOLT jumped in onto HASTY RYTHYM.

Ms R Thompson, trainer of THE GODFATHER was fined $30 for presenting that gelding with gear it was not approved to race in (AR140A).
