Race 1MAIDEN S/W - 1300 metres:

As G Wyndham was not available, stewards permitted C Lever to replace him as the rider of KING CONNOLLY.

On jumping away EMBOSSED shifted out and hampered KING CONNOLLY which was slow to begin.  BLUEGRASS PAINTER was tightened for room and hampered between RESTLESS LEGS and ILYA, both of which shifted ground.

Near the 700 metres EMBOSSED was bumped by THY SPUR which shifted in, as a result EMBOSSED became unbalanced and lost ground.

Stewards questioned Mr B Merrall, trainer of KING CONNOLLY regarding that horse being difficult to load in the barriers.  Mr Merrall stated that he had trialled the horse with blinkers and it had gone in without any problems and if it had blinkers on today he was confident the problem would not have occurred.  Stewards notified Mr Merrall that a warning would be issued against KING CONNOLLY for being difficult to load and that should it perform in a similar manner in future some action may be taken.

Race 2CLASS B HCP - 1100 metres:

On arrival at the barriers EM DA SHA, which had blood in its mouth, was inspected by the club veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.

When the gates opened NANNA’SHANDSOMBOY jumped awkwardly and lost ground.

Near the 400 metres GAY DECEPTION was held up behind EM DA SHA which was racing greenly.

Race 3 SPEC COND - 1600 metres:

Mr B Merrall, trainer of RACER’S SUCCESS was fined $50 for nominating that gelding for this event when ineligible (AR64 (1)). 

As CHIGWIDDEN was not able to be placed in the barriers, stewards ordered the withdrawal of that gelding at 2.20pm.  Subsequent to the event stewards ordered all monies wagered on CHIGWIDDEN to be refunded and the following betting deductions.  All monies wagered prior to the withdrawal of CHIGWIDDEN to be paid as follows:- for the win, face value of the ticket less 12 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 15 cents in the dollar.  Stewards issued a warning against CHIGWIDDEN as a result of it being unable to be loaded into the barriers and delaying the start.  Mr T Gillett, trainer of CHIGWIDDEN was notified that prior to the gelding racing again it must perform satisfactorily in a trial.

Ms L Williams, trainer of BY HOW FRAAR was advised a warning would be issued against the mare after being difficult to load into the barriers and delayed the start.  Further that should it perform in a similar manner in future stewards may take some action against it.

During the event TENACIOUS had a tendency to hang out.

Race 5CLASS 2 HCP - 1100 metres:

Acting on veterinary advice that LEAVE ME OUT was lame in the near hind leg, stewards ordered the withdrawal of LEAVE ME OUT at 2.48pm.

Acting on veterinary advice, stewards ordered the withdrawal of GUNDOOEE STAR at 3.23pm.  Subsequent to the event stewards ordered all monies wagered on GUNDOOEE STAR to be refunded and the following betting deductions.  All monies wagered prior to the withdrawal of GUNDOOEE STAR to be paid as follows:- for the win, face value of the ticket less 9 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 10 cents in the dollar.

Stewards questioned Mr A Trengrove, trainer of GUNDOOEE STAR which was a late scratching due to being lame in the off foreleg.  Mr Trengrove explained that the horse had been brought to the track and the horse had showed no sign of lameness until he reported it to the officials. 

Stewards questioned B Huppatz, rider and Mr K Lamprecht, trainer of NEGEV which finished down the outside rail.  B Huppatz stated that the gelding hung out around the turn and he elected to let the horse drift out in the straight rather than fight it.  Mr Lamprecht stated that NEGEV does not hang in its work and he could offer no explanation for it hanging out today.  Stewards issued a warning against NEGEV and that if it should perform in a similar manner in future the stewards may take some action against it.

Race 6CLASS 6 HCP - 1300 metres:

Acting on veterinary advise that SONG MEKONG which had played up in the truck en route to the course and injured itself, stewards ordered the withdrawal of SONG MEKONG at 3.28pm.

Mr K Lamprecht, trainer of RADIANT SOCIETY was fined $50 for presenting that gelding with incorrect gear (AR140(a)).

Shortly after the start FOR RORY shifted out and tightened LANSON and BARRY onto DORTMUNDER.  Also on jumping away RADIANT SOCIETY after bumping with HOWDY KEN shifted out resulting in CELTIC DANE and CALL THE HUNTER being tightened out onto COUSY which shifted in at the same time.

Near the 1200 metres GLORY GAZER was tightened for room and had to be checked when tightened for room by FOR RORY which was getting in away from LANSON which in turn was shifting in away from DORTMUNDER which had shifted in.  As stewards held no one rider responsible, no action was taken.

Stewards questioned Ms A White, trainer of DORTMUNDER, which performed below expectations. 

Subsequent to the event Mr B Merrall, trainer of FOR RORY reported that the gelding had lost a near fore plate and was lame.

Race 7 DARWIN GUINEAS - 1600 metres:

Mr D Leech, trainer of BARABBA SUN was fined $50 for failing to declare a rider for that horse by the prescribed time NT129 (c).

Mr V Oldfield, trainer of DANCING SCENE was fined $50 for presenting that gelding late in the mounting yard (NT128A).

When the gates opened BARABBA SUN stood flat footed and lost ground as a consequence.

When the gates opened SANDOVER jumped away awkwardly.

Shortly after the start SKYY GREY, which had jumped away awkwardly, shifted in abruptly and bumped LAMBENT causing that gelding to became unbalanced.

In the early stages of the race LAMBENT raced ungenerously with its head up.

Near the 500 metres SIRRAJA rolled in and took LAMBENT in on SKYY GREY which became unbalanced and lost ground.

Race 8 - WELTER - 1100 metres:

Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Mrs S Arnold, trainer of BORDER in relation to a stable return not being lodged for that gelding in accordance with NT56.

Pre-race blood samples were taken from SHREWD ACE, ROLLING ROCK, SILK WIND, KAPPA, SIRRAJA, BARABBA SUN, DANCING SCENE and SANDOVER.

All winners were swabbed.

Stewards fined licensed stablehand M Abe $50 for not displaying his current registration card in accordance with NT107.

Stewards fined apprentice jockey B Davis $100 for failing to have his current photo ID registration card in his possession as instructed on Friday 1 July 2005 (AR175(p)).
