RACE ONE       CLASS B HCP – 1OOO M

Near the 700 metres PRUNINGS was tightened for room on the inside of NO TRICKS which was racing tight on the inside of PENSEE which shifted in when tightened for room by MOLOKAI’S LADD.

Rounding the first turn PENSEE had a tendency to hang out and took BELISARIUS outwards.

At the entrance to the straight PENSEE hung out and took XHAFERS ROLL out wide on the corner.

Ms A White, trainer of MY HEADLAND reported that the gelding had been galloped on and had lacerations to both hindlegs.

RACE TWO 3YO CLASS 3 HCP – 11OO M

When the gates opened PRINTERS BOUNTY was slow to begin.

Near the 1000 metres NASH STREET, which was racing ungenerously had to be eased off the heels of RANKS.

Near the 300 metres P Shiers, rider of REGATTA dropped his whip.

RACE THREE       CLASS B HCP – 13OO M

On the way to the barriers J Lorensini dismounted from TIGER OF OLD as the gelding began to play up.  TIGER OF OLD broke away and jumped the outside rail  Stewards ordered the withdrawal of TIGER OF OLD at 2.47pm.

After being placed in the barriers PICAYUNE reared and became cast.  Acting on veterinary advice stewards ordered the withdrawal of PICAYUNE at 2.53pm.

Subsequent to the event stewards ordered all monies wagered on TIGER OF OLD and PICAYUNE to be refunded and the following betting deductions.  All monies wagered prior to the withdrawal of TIGER OF OLD to be paid as follows:- for the win, face value of the ticket less 54 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 35 cents in the dollar.

All monies wagered from 2.47 until 2.53 to be paid as follows:- for the win, face value of the ticket less 42 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 25 cents in the dollar.

On jumping away TITO, which was slow to begin was tightened for room between MALLISA STAR and SHOVANEST both of which shifted.

Near the 100 metres DUBAI FLYER (C Moon) shifted in and bumped SANCAY.

T Gillett, trainer of SHOVANEST was fined $50 for failing to lodge a stable return showing the current owners for that gelding (NT56).

D Coffey, rider of RHYTHMIC STEP was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (AR137(A)).  The careless riding being that near the 1000 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of HIPPO thereby taking that geldings running, resulting in HIPPO clipping the heels of RHYTHMIC STEP and almost dislodging its rider S Leckey (a).

D Coffey was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Wednesday 14 July 2004 (2 meetings).

Near the 150 metres CLASSIC COVER which had some difficulty obtaining a clear run was forced to shift in slightly to avoid the heels of FIRE JOE which shifted in slightly.

When the gates opened SKING was slow to begin.

On jumping away LION PRIDE was tightened for room between RADIANT BLAST and SHADOW BOXER.

When the gates opened GEODUDE and LATENT jumped awkwardly

Rounding the home turn BELIEVE IN VICTORY was taken wide by TRAFFORD ridden by M Hart (a) who had shifted out to get a clear run and then dropped his rein and shifted out further.

When the gates opened SMILING EYES stood flat footed and lost ground.  Stewards questioned Mr V Oldfield, trainer and owner of SMILING EYES about the gelding’s performance today.  Mr Oldfield stated that SMILING EYES always races back in the field and that he has only run the horse over 1200 metres or less on a couple of occasions and each time it has tailed off badly in the early stages.  He further stated that SMILING EYES pulled up alright.

On jumping away PELT was tightened for room between GALVESTON STORM and KYPERRA due to KYPERRA shifting out.

Rounding the turn near the 600 metres DARROWBY LIVEWIRE had a tendency to get its head up and hang out.

When the gates opened TROUBLE SHOT was slow to begin.

J Lorensini, rider of FAXED was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (AR137(A)).  The careless riding being that near the 1500 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of PECKJATA thereby tightening that gelding in onto APIARY.  As a result APIARY was hampered and tightened for room and PECKJATA had to be checked.

J Lorensini was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Wednesday 14 July 2004 (2 meetings).
