RACE FOUR CLASS 5 HCP – 1500 M

At the start STORM CONTROL shifted out and then had a tendency to lay out for the entire race.

Stewards questioned P Shires, rider of RODIN which performed below expectations. P Shiers stated that the gelding failed to finish off the race and in his opinion the horse failed to backup after racing only 7 days prior and that this was it’s third start in 4 weeks.

RACE SIX CLASS D HCP – 12OO M

When the gates opened MANTIS stood flat footed and lost ground.

Shortly after the start PALACE LAD shifted out onto GREAT EAGLE.

RACE SEVEN CLASS 2 HCP – 15OO M

On jumping away ACELA was tightened for room by RICHOTTO.

Approaching the 1400 metres PERAK SILVER (NZ) had to be checked when tightened for room between ACELA which came in with RICHOTTO and JAYASHARRI which after being taken out slightly by GLITTER BUG was bumped on the hindquarters by PERAK SILVER (NZ) and shifted out. As there were several contributing factors stewards took no action other than to notify all riders that they must ensure they do their utmost to protect their fellow riders.

Near the 250 metres MOSSE, which was weakening, had to be eased off the heels of PERAK SILVER (NZ) (D Bates) which shifted out to obtain a clear run. D Bates was reprimanded for shifting ground when not 2 lengths clear.

Over the concluding stages PERAK SILVER (NZ) had a tendency to lay in which prevented D Bates from riding the gelding out to the best of his ability.

RACE EIGHT CLASS 3 HCP – 12OO M

On jumping away RUSTY DON and KABATEPE came together due to both horses shifting ground. As a result RUSTY DON became unbalanced and lost ground.

B Davis (a), rider of FULL GALLOP was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (AR137(a)). The careless riding being that near the 650 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of RUSTY DON which resulted in RUSTY DON having to be checked. B Davis was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 12th October 2002 (2 racemeetings).

Stewards questioned D Bates, rider of KABATEPE which performed below expectations. D Bates stated that he got caught wide on the gelding and it then appeared not to appreciate the sand coming back, however it was a beaten horse a long way from the finish and in his opinion the gelding had trained off and will be going for a spell.

RACE NINE OPEN HCP – 12OO M

On jumping away KEW was tightened for room between FRISK ME (NZ) and ROMANZA which shifted in abruptly.

Shortly after the start SKIING, which had been slow to begin, took a run on the inside of CATHALOOK which was shifting in. Some strides after, CATHALOOK ceased shifting in however SKIING rolled in for several strides afterwards and tightened BROOKLYN BULLET which had to be eased.

In the straight ROMANZA had a tendency to lay in which prevented B Davis (a) from riding the horse out in his normal manner.
