RACE TWO        CLASS 4 HCP – 1OOO M

Apprentice M Abe (a) notified the stewards that he would not be able to ride at his declared MRW today.  In those races where there was no suitable rider available to replace him he was permitted to ride overweight.  The following rider changes were permitted;

Race 10................. ARAGORN... D Oakford

Race 12 ................. TAWNY PULSE................. D Oakford

M Abe (a) was fined $250 for accepting rides for which he was subsequently overweight (AR120(b)).  M Abe had been penalised for a similar offence recently.  Stewards notified M Abe (a) and Mr B Merrall representing his master Mr R Merrall that they should consider changing his MRW as he may be accepting rides below his realistic riding weight.  Further that he must ensure he is able to ride at his declared MRW in future or he may be suspended.

As C Moon was to be overweight Stewards permitted the following rider changes:-

Race 2................. KISSING DOWN..... T Perry

Race 8................. SUNBLOCK. M Abe (a)

Shortly after jumping away SHODIYM shifted in and hampered WILD MOMENT.

At the entrance to the straight WILD MOMENT, which rolled in slightly, had to be eased off the heels of HERMIT which shifted out.

RACE FOUR MAIDEN S/W – 110O M

Near the 650 metres LITIGIOUS raced up onto heels and had to be checked.

On return to scale D Bates, rider of the fourth placegetter TAILOR lodged an objection against GOING STAG being declared third placgetter alleging interference near the 300 metres.  After taking evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the video of the race, stewards dismissed the objection and correct weight was declared.  Stewards notified the parties that they believed that although GOING STAG had rolled in slightly there was sufficient room for TAILOR to take a run on the inside if it had raced genuinely.

Stewards questioned B Huppatz about the performance of CHANGE YOUR TUNE.  B Huppatz stated that the mare began to loose touch with the field in the middle stages, then when it began to get sand thrown back it commenced to race ungenerously and struck the rail on several occasions.  In the straight CHANGE YOUR TUNE then began to stride out and make ground.

Near the 300 metres SAVNECT had to change course when disappointed for a run on the inside of CHEMICAL HEART which shifted in.

M Abe (a), rider of CHEMICAL HEART was found guilty of a charge of careless riding AR137 (a).  The careless riding being that near the 900 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of SAVNECT causing that horse to be checked.  M Abe (a) was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Thursday 19th February, 2004.

Prior to correct weight being declared, the connections of ZAMBO (NZ) requested to view the official video of the race.

Subsequent to the event the clubs veterinary surgeon inspected SNAP TO IT which performed below expectations and reported that he believed the gelding may have been feeling the effects of the heat.  Ms A White, trainer of SNAP TO IT notified the stewards that the gelding would be spelled after today’s performance.
