HALCYON SEAS clipped the heels of BOLD COMBINATION and blundered badly at the 250m.
At an enquiry it was established that on two occasions approaching the 300 metres BOLD COMBINATION became unbalanced and shifted in after being brushed by GRISMA (D. Andrews). After evidence was taken from D. Bradbery (HALCYON SEAS), A. Molino BOLD COMBINATION and D. Andrews (GRISMA), D. Andrews was given the benefit of a grave doubt as to whether she had dictated the line of BOLD COMBINATION inwards which resulted in HALCYON SEAS being severely checked. (AR.137(a)).

After the race it was noted that LET'S RAW had sustained a small laceration to the inside of its mouth and had blood in its mouth.

RACE 5: OPEN HANDICAP - 1000 METRES

Stewards considered an objection lodged by S. Simon, the rider of GLENELLA LAD which finished third, against ROMBERG (C. Murphy) being declared the winner, alleging interference at the 150 metres. After taking evidence from the parties and viewing the video films it was established that near the 150 metres GLENELLA LAD was disappointed for a run between ROMBERG and MR. DIDDLES (Apprentice T. Maeda), which shifted out. Accordingly, the protest was dismissed and the placings ordered to stand. Apprentice T. Maeda was cautioned and advised to keep his mounts straight in future.

Approaching the 650 metres FUTURE ROAD had to be eased when PRIOR PLANNING (A. Cox) shifted in. A. Cox was cautioned for permitting his mount to shift ground when not quite clear.

RACE 6: CLASS 6 HANDICAP - 1300 METRES

Mr J. Sullivan, trainer of VAIN VIRGINIAN, was fined $50 for permitting the gelding to race in blinkers instead of pacifiers, its approved gear (LR.82(2)).

G. Kliese was given permission to ride CINO 2 kilograms overweight when no other rider was available.

Shortly after the start CINO was steadied away from the heels of TURNPIKE, which shifted in. A short distance later CINO was severely checked when crossed by FUME (C. Murphy). MOLITOR, which was trailing, was severely checked in consequence. C. Murphy was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (AR.137(a)), in that she permitted her mount to shift in when not clear. C. Murphy was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on 24th August 2002, up to and including 6th September 2002 (2 meetings).

Approaching the 1000 metres MAHONGWE and TRIDEKA were crowded for room by EL ALAMADOR (D. Bradbery), which shifted in. D. Bradbery was advised that he must ensure that his mounts are two lengths clear before crossing.

At the 650 metres VAIN VIRGINIAN (P. Cullen) shifted out abruptly across the heels of NADZAB DRIVE and made contact with the hindquarters of WHEELAWAY. VAIN VIRGINIAN then continued to shift out and severely checked IRISH REIGN. When questioned P. Cullen stated that in his opinion his mount had initially been tightened for room by MAHONGWE (D. Andrews), which resulted in VAIN VIRGINIAN being checked. After viewing the video films and considering their own observations, stewards found that near the 650 metres VAIN VIRGINIAN hung out of its own accord. In the circumstances no further action was taken.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
