RACE 1: CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 900 Metres

Jockey A Spradau, the rider of SCOTTISH CHARGER was granted permission to declare 1.5kg overweight, when there was no other suitable rider available. SWIVEL was a fraction slow into stride. LORDE GEIGER shifted outwards sharply approaching the 600 metre mark resulting in the horse racing very ungenerously and threw its head up in the air, subsequently the horse lost considerable ground. LORD GEIGER ran very wide when rounding the home turn. DINGLE DOOLIN hung outwards sharply approaching the 200 metre mark after being struck with the whip, resulting in its rider M Cummings having to stop riding and straighten his mount on more than one occasion. WHISKEY BOY who was racing on the outside of DINGLE DOOLIN was hampered slightly in the incident. Stewards questioned Jockey I Coombes in regards to the racing manners of his mount LORD GEIGER. Jockey Coombes stated that he rode his mount very hard in the early stages of the event in an endeavour to hold his racing position and approaching the 600 metre mark the horse got on the wrong leg and therefore shifted outwards sharply across the heels of DINGLE DOOLIN and continued to shift out for the remainder of the event. Mr J A Swift, trainer of DINGLE DOOLIN reported that the horse had been galloped on and sustained a deep laceration to the off side hind leg. This was confirmed by an examination by the Club Veterinary Surgeon.

RACE 2: MAIDEN HANDICAP - 1000 Metres

Jockey J C Esser, the rider of QUANDO was granted permission to declare 1.5kg overweight when there was no other suitable rider available. App L Attard the rider of MR ROCKET was granted approval by the stewards to claim only a part of his full allowance in accordance with the terms of ARR 92 (12), having regard to the horses previous fractious nature together with a recommendation from the horses trainer to use suitable packing with the saddle. FIRE AND WATER, QUANDO and MR. ROCKET were all very slow into stride when a start was effected. It was noted by the Stewards that QUANDO finished a considerable distance from the remainder of the field.

RACE 3: CLASS 5 HANDICAP - 1000 Metres

EPIGRAM lost ground approaching the 600 metre mark when the horse got its head up and over raced when it resented the sand being thrown back.

RACE 4: CLASS 3 PLATE - 1200 Metres

OUR ZAC was very slow away and was very reluctant to fully stretch out in running and raced very wide on the track when rounding the home turn and even though the horse completed the event, it finished a considerable distance from the remainder of the field. A post race veterinary examination by the Club Veterinary Surgeon did not reveal any significant abnormality, apart from a long-term hoof problem. Connections were advised that the horse would be required to undergo a Veterinary inspection prior to starting again. Jockey M Cummings, the rider of REGAL TOM reported that his mount had a tendency to hang outwards from the 600 metre mark onwards.

RACE 5: WEIGHT FOR AGE - 1200 Metres

Both NONO and THE INSPECTOR became fractious in the barriers prior to the start. POWLETT MEWS has a tendency to hang inwards under pressure over the final 200 metres resulting in App L Attard having to stop riding on more than one occasion. The race winner THE INSPECTOR retuned to scale with a trace of blood in one nostril. A Veterinary inspection revealed that the blood had come from a laceration, which in her opinion could have been obtained when the horse was fractious in the starting stalls prior to the start. The horse's rider Jockey K Ballard who reported that the horse did throw his head up whilst awaiting the start to be effected on more than one occasion confirmed this.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
