When questioned about the riding tactics adopted on REGAL PLEASURE, trainer Mr E. Covell explained that he had instructed Jockey D. Bradbery to ride the gelding on the pace and was surprised that REGAL PLEASURE was unable to muster early speed. D. Bradbery advised that in the early stages he urged REGAL PLEASURE along in an endeavour to maintain a forward position, however at no stage in the event did the horse race on the bit. He added that making the home turn he applied further pressure to REGAL PLEASURE, which ran on only fairly and that he was disappointed in the horse's performance. The explanations were noted.
