GENERAL:
Stewards concluded an adjourned inquiry regarding Samantha Smith on the 14th September 2002. After considering the evidence before them Stewards issued a caution to Miss Samantha Smith and took no further action.
Stewards then opened an inquiry into the reason Miss Smith left the racecourse without permission before the conclusion of the inquiry. After taking evidence from both Samantha Smith and Mr Fred Smith, Stewards issued a charge against Mr Fred Smith under AR175(l) in that he was a party to Samantha Smith breaching AR175(f). After pleading guilty, Mr Smith was subsequently fined the sum of $100.

RACE 1: MAIDEN H'CAP 1000 METRES (11 STARTERS)
WESTERN SCENE (J Stephens) jumped away awkwardly as the start was effected.
RISKY ROMANCE (App H Watanabe) jumped awkwardly at the start and shifted outwards abruptly which then caused THE ROAN RANGER (D Whitmore) to shift outwards.
NEUF D'OR (C Beets) was slow into stride as the start was effected.
At approximately the 850 metre mark WESTERN SCENE (J Stephens) and DON'T COMPLAIN (David Rewald) brushed the running rail.
DON'T COMPLAIN (David Rewald) struck the running rail heavily rounding the hometurn.
WESTERN SCENE (J Stephens) layed inwards over the concluding stages of the event.
PEPPERINA LANE (J Marks) was disappointed and unable to obtain clear running for the entire straight.
TEPEQUAR (J Piper) was a late scratching by order of the Stewards on veterinary advice at 12.20pm.

RACE 2: CLASS 1 H'CAP - 1000 METRES (8 STARTERS)
ROYAL KABALENA (J Stephens) steadied momentarily at the 800 metres coming onto the course proper.

RACE 3: CLASS 4 H'CAP - 1000 METRES (8 STARTERS)
Jockey M Unwin was fined the sum of $100 under the terms of AR118J in that he changed gear after weighing out.

RACE 4: CLASS 4 H'CAP - 1800 METRES (9 STARTERS)
Stewards issued a charge of careless riding against Jockey M Unwin in that at approximately the 200 metre mark he permitted his mount HAPPY FESTIVUS to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of TOP MOVE (C Beets) which then resulted in LADY PATILLA (L Timson) being taken inwards, which resulted in NIGHT IN VIENNA (NZ) (H Watanabe) clipping LADY PATILLA heels and losing its position in the field which further resulted in Jockey Watanabe becoming dislodged from his mount. Jockey Unwin was found guilty of the charge that was laid against him and subsequently his licence to ride in races for a period of 3 calendar weeks to commence midnight September 28 2002 up to and including the October 19 2002.
At the start HAPPY FESTIVUS (M Unwin) jumped inwards and made contact with JUST ON DUSK (S Watkin).
TOP MOVE (C Beets) and NIGHT IN VIENNA (NZ) were both slow into stride.
App H Watanabe was cleared by the club's Ambulance Officials to fulfil the remainder of his riding engagements at the race meeting.

RACE 5: CLASS 3 H'CAP - 1200 METRES (7 STARTERS)
As the start was effected ALL JAKE (J Marks) knuckled when leaving the gates.
MASTER OF SPEED (J Piper) jumped outwards and made contact with ALLIE BOB (App H Watanabe).
WESTERN PLEASURE (J Stephens) jumped outwards and made contact with DEPATRO (R Mules).
At approximately the 900 metre mark ALL JAKE (J Marks) shifted inwards and inconvenienced the running of SPLENDID RESULT (App D Evans) who in turn hampered the running of JET WONDER (B Appo). Stewards advised J Marks to show more care in the future.

RACE 6: CLASS 6 H'CAP - 1200 METRES (7 STARTERS)
GROUCHIE PATTERN (T Kruger) layed inwards rounding the hometurn and hampered the running of TENBY SOMETHING (J Piper).

RACE 7: CLASS 2 H'CAP - 1400 METRES (13 STARTERS)
MR. BAKER (J Marks) jumped awkwardly as the start was effected.
Over the final 100 metres of the event LINE MY POCKET (R Mules) was placed in considerably difficulty when his whip became tangled in the horses reigns.

RACE 8: OPEN H'CAP - 1400 METRES (11 STARTERS)
At approximately the 1100 metre mark DESERT PHOENIX (NZ) (D Simmons) shifted in marginally and inconvenienced the running of CARRARA LAD (T Mathieson).
No further incidents.

BOOKMAKERS: Three (3) bookmakers fielded at the race meeting.
