TRACK RATING: Good
GENERAL: As M Pelling was indisposed he was replaced on POPENJAY (Race 4) by M. Bennett and MCGINTY ROSE (Race 6) by S Shield.
RACE 1: PACIFIC FORD HANDICAP - 1400M.
Trainer Paul Jones was fined the sum of $50 for failing to declare a rider for AREPO by the required time.
RACE 2: CALOUNDRA CITY HINTERLAND PLATE - 1200M.
MISTER BRAIN was slow to begin.
GO NORTH TO ALASKA which was inclined to lay out making the 800 metres turn shifted out and had to be steadied off the heels of THUNDER AND ROSES which shifted in slightly.
MILLER BOY raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages and was forced to race wide for the remainder of the event.
RACE 3: SUNLAND SHOPPING CENTRE HANDICAP - 1800M.
After passing the 1200 metres FAJITA MARGARITA shifted in abruptly tightening COERCED in on to LAWLER which struck the fence and became unbalanced. Apprentice Matthew Spriggs was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in future.
STRONG ROSE was forced to race wide from the 800 metres until straightening.
Near the 500 metres COERCED improved up on to the heels of RIVER AVON and had to be steadied. As a result SWEET ROMANCE had to be checked out and away from the heels of COERCED.
Rounding the home turn MISS ENTREVEAUX had to be steadied when tightened for room between STRONG ROSE which shifted in slightly and DANCING MAN which shifted out to improve. Jockey C Reith rider of DANCING MAN was advised to exercise more care in future.
On straightening ONLY THE BRAVE was disappointed for a run between RIOLO and RIVER AVON.
A post race Veterinary examination of STRONG ROSE failed to reveal any abnormality.
RACE 4: SUNSHINE MARKETS HANDICAP - 1000M.
As apprentice David Gay was unable to claim his full allowance on OUR QUIET MAN he was replaced by apprentice R Hurley. Apprentice David Gay was subsequently fined the sum of $150.
STAYS ON TOUR was forced to race wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
RACE 5: TENSENS CLEANING SUPPLIES HANDICAP - 1000M.
MAN ON A MISSION was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon prior to the event and passed fit to start.
On jumping away MAGICAL MAN shifted out abruptly taking AMUN UMUN out on to the hind quarters of MAN ON A MISSION.
After jumping away awkwardly GRACE'S KIN shifted out abruptly and lost ground.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of RAFSO compared to its 11th of 11 at Eagle Farm on 11th September 2002, trainer Jack Casey stated that on that occasion RAFSO tried to lead all the way however after entering the straight and placed under pressure the gelding failed to respond. J Casey added he believes RAFSO is only a 1000 metres horse and therefore was better suited in today's event.
Following the event apprentice M Rice reported that in his opinion GRACE'S KIN was sore in the off fore. A post race Veterinary examination of GRACE'S KIN confirmed that the mare was sore in the off fore fetlock. Trainer John Penfold was advised a Veterinary certificate must be obtained for GRACE'S KIN prior to its next race start.
RACE 6: SUNLAND RETAILERS HANDICAP - 1000M.
GO TELEST was slow to begin.
A short distance after the start MAKADIAN was tightened for room between RON'S XENA and MCGINTY ROSE which shifted in.
Approaching the 950 metres MILITARY PRINCESS shifted in and had to be steadied off the heels of MAKADIAN.
Over the final 200 metres MCGINTY ROSE shifted out taking MARVELLOUS QUEEN wider on the track. S Shield rider of MCGINTY ROSE was advised in future he must stop riding and straighten his mount sooner than he did on this occasion.
After passing the 100 metres MARVELLOUS QUEEN was accidentally struck across the nose by the whip of S. Shield rider of MCGINTY ROSE.
MARVELLOUS QUEEN suffered a bleeding attack during the event. The filly will incur a mandatory three month ban from racing. A swab sample was taken from MARVELLOUS QUEEN.
Following the event K Pope was dislodged from GO TELEST. K Pope was examined by the Club Doctor and passed fit to fulfil his further riding engagement.
RACE 7: CALOUNDRA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HANDICAP - 1400M.
RED INTRO and SHOWZON were both slow to begin.
SHOWZON was forced to race wide in the early and middle stages of the event.
PACIFIC LANE over raced in the early and middle stages of the event.
Approaching the 200 metres S Katsidis rider of MIGHT AND GOLD accidentally dropped his whip.
RACE 8: CALOUNDRA CITY BEACHES HANDICAP - 1200M.
BANNING'S PAGE jumped away awkwardly.
GENTEEL BOY was slow to begin.
At the 800 metres PICABLU shifted in taking DIGNIFIED WALK and SOLEMNITY in on to MUHALIA which had to be steadied.
Approaching the 700 metres SOLEMNITY had to be steadied off the heels of DIGNIFIED WALK which was taken in by PICABLU. At this stage SOLEMNITY commenced to over race and shifted out taking BURAN BREEZE wider on the track.
On straightening BUCK WHAN was inclined to lay in then after being straightened shifted out slightly. As a result DIOCLES which was racing back and to the outside of BUCK WHAN had to be steadied.
ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
