RACE 1: CLASS 5 HANDICAP - 1000 METRES

As J. Cairns was indisposed, A. Molino was substituted as the rider of DEEALLA. J. Cairns will be required to furnish a medical clearance before being permitted to ride again.

At the start BUSTAWAY jumped in and made contact with the hindquarters of SEARADA.

On jumping KELZIPPER was hampered and taken across the heels of EDUCATOR by FREE WORLD, which shifted out.

At the 900 metres KELZIPPER had to be steadied off the heels of CHARNWOOD PRINCE, shifted out and hampered TASTY DROP.

Near the 600 metres DEEALLA was steadied off the heels of BROC 'N' ARROW.

On straightening of DEEALLA had to be checked sharply to avoid the heels of CYBER STAR (K. Mahoney), which shifted out to improve when not clear. K. Mahoney was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (AR.137(a)) and was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on 31st August 2002, up to and including 21st September 2002. When assessing penalty stewards took into account that K. Mahoney had been suspended for a similar offence on 30th August 2002 and ordered that the two periods of suspension be served concurrently.

At the 300 metres DEEALLA was hampered by CHARNWOOD PRINCE (J. Piper), which shifted out to improve. J. Piper was reprimanded for shifting ground when not clear (AR.137(a)). A short distance later DEEALLA was taken in across the heels of CHARNWOOD PRINCE and severely checked after making contact with KELZIPPER. The tightening was exacerbated by BROC 'N' ARROW (D. Bradbery), which initially had dictated the line of KELZIPPER inwards, and simultaneously BROC 'N' ARROW was simultaneously receiving pressure from ARCHDUKE, which shifted in marginally. Having regard to the number of circumstances that contributed to the incident, stewards took no further action other than to severely reprimand D. Bradbery for shifting ground when not quite clear.

TASTY DROP was unable to obtain clear running at any stage in the straight.

RACE 2: CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1300 METRES

GENERAL SALIERI was slow to get into stride.

At the 1000 metres WOBBO TOBY had to be checked off the heels of GOODBYE BLUES.

Near the 650 metres GOODBYE BLUES hung out and carried WOREE LAD extremely wide.

Approaching the 600 metres MISS TUI, which got its head in the air overraced, had to be steadied off the heels of INTEGRA ROYAL. MISS TUI then shifted out, carrying CAZMA wider. RED PYRAMID, which was following had to be shifted out to avoid heels, resulting in REBEL ROUSER being hampered.

When questioned as to why he stopped riding MIGHTY NEDIYM at about the 120 metres, M. Cullen stated that he was of the opinion that MIGHTY NEDIYM, which was finishing quickly, may have run up onto the heels of RED PYRAMID. The explanation was noted.

RACE 3: CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 1000 METRES

PEMBROOK was examined by the Club veterinary surgeon prior to the race and passed fit to start.

Mr D Crouch was questioned as to why MAISON BUSTE was late arriving in the enclosure, without a tongue tie having been fitted. After taking evidence from stable foreman Mr D. Crouch, stewards took no further action other than to advise Mr Crouch that horses must be presented in the parade ring on time and with all approved gear fitted.

At the 700 metres DANCING PHOENIX (D. Andrews) brushed SNIP 'N' SEA and shifted in, momentarily tightening PEMBROOK. Near the 500 metres DANCING PHOENIX again shifted in and tightened RORY'S BEST onto the running rail. D. Andrews was advised to exercise more care.

Approaching the 150 metres HOT SLOT shifted out and hampered SNIP 'N' SEA, which was tiring.

When questioned as to why he stopped riding SNIP 'N' SEA in the run to the finish, D. Crossland stated that in his opinion the gelding was a beaten horse turning for home and was unable to improve, therefore he allowed it to coast to the line. Though stewards agreed that SNIP 'N' SEA was under extreme pressure on straightening, nevertheless they advised D. Crossland that for the benefit of all concerned, in similar circumstances he should ride his mount out at least hands and heels right to the finish.

RACE 4: SPECIAL CONDITIONS HANDICAP - 1000 METRES

The heading of this race was shown in the Official Programme as being an Open Handicap, when in fact it was a Special Conditions Handicap event. An announcement to this effect was made over the course Public Address system.

Shortly after the start BLAZING KALA had to be checked off the heels of COPRAKHAN (F. Edwards), which after beginning awkwardly was ridden along and shifted out. F. Edwards was reprimanded for failing to stop riding and straighten his mount (AR.137(a)).

At the 650 metres TURNPIKE and CITIGUY brushed.

At the 1000 metres SPORTS FREAK, which was pulling hard, had to be eased off the heels of OLD TRAFFORD.

After the 650 metres OSCA ERIC commenced to hang out and making the home turn ran extremely wide. As OSCA ERIC has offended in a similar manner previously, trainer Mr G. Farrell was advised that the horse will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in an official barrier trial prior to being permitted to race again.

On straightening RIVA REBEL and SPORTS FREAK bumped.

In the straight RUFUS EM was held up and unable to obtain clear running until the final 100 metres.
