RACE 1: AUSTRALIAN RED CROSS H'CAP - 1350M

SHA ALMA began very awkwardly and lost ground.

Approaching the first turn CYRILLIC got its head up and raced ungenerously for a short distance when restrained off the heels of SECRET POLISH.

Rounding the home turn PENNY LONG LASHES became unbalanced after being bumped by MORE DIAMONDS.

When attempting a narrow run between CYRILLIC and MAGIQUE SKY at the 300m, I'M IN HEAVEN was soon afterwards impeded for some distance due to slight movement from MAGIQUE SKY which received contact from BANYAN BAY.

After obtaining clear running approaching the 200m, I'M IN HEAVEN shifted out slightly resulting in CYRILLIC being taken out on to the heels of SHA ALMA.

Near the 200m the PENNY LONG LASHES had to be steadied away from the heels of MORE DIAMONDS which was taken in by SECRET POLISH. A veterinary examination of PENNY LONG LASHES, which weakened badly following this incident, revealed that the mare was displaying soreness as a consequence of lacerations to the near hind leg.

SILVER BELLS and AMEX came together on a number of occasions approaching the home turn.

RACE 7: QUEENSLAND CHARITIES & BIRDSVILLE H'CAP - 1200M

Due to a heavy storm, the start of this race was delayed from the advertised starting time of 4.28 p.m. to 4.52 p.m. Following a downgrade of the track to dead, stewards acceded to a request from the connections of SASSI SWITCH to withdraw that mare. SASSI SWITCH was officially declared a late withdrawal at 4.37 p.m. On the announcement of correct weight, all monies invested on SASSI SWITCH were ordered to be refunded with deductions of 13 cents in the dollar on the face value of win bets and 12 cents in the dollar on the face value of place bets placed prior to 4.37 p.m.

TYCHE reared as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer M. Currie was advised that TYCHE must perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial prior to its next race start.

Approaching the 200m OURS was inconvenienced by STARTELL which at that stage shifted out around the heels of OUT BREAK to obtain clear running. M. Pelling, the rider of STARTELL, was cautioned and urged to exercise more care when shifting ground.

RACE 8: XXXX H'CAP - 1030M

On return to scale a protest was lodged by P. Hammersley, the rider of 2nd placegetter SPIRIT OF NORWAY, against FINAL STORM being declared the winner alleging interference near the 200m. It was established that after obtaining a run between ACE RULE and FINAL STORM, SPIRIT OF NORWAY initially was placed in restricted room due to some slight outward movement from ACE RULE. It was further established that at the 200m FINAL STORM shifted in under pressure at a stage when not clear of SPIRIT OF NORWAY resulting in P. Hammersley having to steady his mount for a number of strides and alter course to the outside of FINAL STORM. In all of the circumstances and bearing in mind the margin of a half neck which separated both horses at the finishing line, stewards upheld the objection and amended the placings to read:

1st SPIRIT OF NORWAY
2nd FINAL STORM
3rd AVON JEWEL

At a subsequent inquiry G. Baker, the rider of FINAL STORM, was reprimanded for allowing his mount to shift in across the rightful running of SPIRIT OF NORWAY.

Inside the 200m TELE SERIES faltered and became unbalanced.

ALL WINNERS WERE SENT TO BE SWABBED.
