DubleannyGrand Melbourne mare Dubleanny enhanced her outstanding race record with a thrilling last stride win in today's listed Proud Miss Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

Completing a big day for Magic Millions graduates, Dubleanny flew home in the final 50 metres to nab Cornelia Marie and Cat's Pyjamas who were in a titanic struggle for much of the straight.

In the end it was the class mare who got the result in a thrilling finish with a long neck separating the first three runners.

Dubleanny was sent out the drifting $1.75 favourite on the strength of her brilliant previous start win over accomplished Melbourne performers Returntosender and True Persuasion.

A daughter of Dubleo, Dubleanny boasts the outstanding record of eight wins and three runner up placings from just 15 lifetime starts.

She's earned her connections, the Vinery Syndicate and the Newstead Syndicate, an ever increasing haul of over $460,000.

Dubleanny was sold twice by Magic Millions prior to joining the Mick Price stable.

She made $34,000 when originally sold by Torryburn Stud at the 2007 National Weanling Sale before being purchased by the Vinery team for $65,000 when offered by Murrulla Stud at the 2008 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The classy mare is one of four winners, from four to race, for the unraced Canny Lad mare Uncanny Lady.

DubleannyUncanny Lady is a half sister to former smart Brisbane mare Broc 'n' Roll the dam of multiple stakes winner Zero Rock and her stakes performed three quarter sibling Rock Idol.

Dubleo has two weanlings catalogued for this month's National Weanling Sale - a colt and filly - the filly is a half sister to recent stakes performer juvenile Queenian and Hong Kong group winner Slow Waltz.

He also has a colt headed to the National Yearling Sale and 12 mares covered by the sire last spring are catalogued for the National Broodmare Sale.

Toorak Toff Back To Best

{SCPinterestShare href=https://form.virtualformguide.com/racing-news/south-australia/49542-toorak-toff-back-to-best.html layout=standard image=https://form.virtualformguide.com/images/stories/south_australia.gif desc=Rick Hore-Lacy says he confident Toorak Toff has fully recovered from a breathing problem ahead of his comeback in the... size=small}

Rick Hore-Lacy says he confident Toorak Toff has fully recovered from a breathing problem ahead of his comeback in the Goodwood at Morphettville.

The imposing three-year-old entire was retired at the end of last year but Hore-Lacy has resurrected the chestnut's career following what appears a successful throat operation.

"I am very happy with him," Hore-Lacy said.

"He's had two pretty good jump outs, one which he won by ten or fifteen lengths and didn't make a sound.

"I think and hope he's back to his best."

Hore-Lacy rates Toorak Toff as among the best horses he has trained and took the punt on a throat operation to get him back to the track in the hope he could build on his only Group One win the Golden Rose (1400m) at Randwick last August.

"He's 16.1 hands and just a beautiful horse," Hore-Lacy said.

The Show A Heart colt has won five of his 11 starts and collected more than $1 million prize money.

He hasn't raced since finishing fourth to Anacheeva in the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) after enduring a tough on-pace run out four wide without cover.

"He's a Group (Three) winner at two and a Group One winner at three and he won at 1100 metres up to 1400 metres and he was a certainty beaten in the Caulfield Guineas," Hore-Lacy said.

He said despite the long break since the Guineas, Toorak Toff was ready to win Sunday's Group One Goodwood (1200m).

"He went well first up last time in when he won the Vain Stakes over 1100 metres beating a pretty good field including Star Witness so I'm hoping he can do the same on Sunday.

"He makes no noise at all and I had him scoped and he's windpipe is completely open."

Toorak Toff has firmed from $14 to $12 with TAB Sportsbet but Crystal Lily is the best backed runner from $6 to $4.40 favourite.

Lindop, Melham Winners At Morphettville

Lone RockLocal star Clare Lindop and Melbourne's Ben Melham were the big winners at Adelaide's feature meeting taking out the Group One Goodwood and SA Derby respectively.

The win aboard Melbourne filly Lone Rock in 1200m sprint was sweet for Lindop who took her Group One tally to four with the win for trainer Robert Smerdon and owner John Bongiorno.

"1200 metres at Morphettville, it's my favourite course and distance and it's a big thrill to win a Group One here," Lindop said.

"She really unleashed, and full credit to her."

Although originally from Victoria, Lindop has made Adelaide her home where she is the stable rider for Leon Macdonald.

Smerdon said he bowed to the owners' wishes to run Lone Rock in the Goodwood in preference to the Listed Proud Miss Stakes on the program.

"The filly was flying but it was a strong field and I was tempted to go to the other race," he said.

"But the owner was committed to the Goodwood and I'm rapt."

Punters thought the task beyond Lone Rock and sent her out at $31 with Crystal Lily the $4.20 favourite.

Crystal Lily was in a forward position but couldn't match the finishing sprint of Lone Rock and finished 1-3/4 lengths behind to record her third Group One second this autumn.

Anthony Cummings' decision to send Shadows In The Sun from Sydney paid handsomely when the three-year-old led all the way to take out the South Australian Derby.

Cummings was searching for a good track for the gelding after being frustrated by Sydney's wet tracks over the carnival.

He engaged Ben Melham for the ride and the young jockey went into the Derby having already ridden a stakes double on the eight-race program.

Robert SmerdonClare LindopShadows In The Sun ($21) beat Echoes Of Heaven ($6.50) by three-quarters of a length with the same margin to Lindop's mount Lalla Rookh ($31).

Melham gained national prominence last spring when he filled in for a suspended Luke Nolen aboard champion mare Black Caviar to win the Group One Patinack Farm Stakes.

On a day dominated by interstate raiders, Mark Kavanagh, who operates stables at Flemington and Morphettville won the Provincial Super Series Final with Bagman while trainer David Jolly took out the Group Three R A Lee Stakes with Budriguez to ensure two local victories.

Caulfield trainer Mick Price and Craig Newitt combined for a double with Vivid Vixen in the Listed ACG Security Stakes and Dubleanny in the Proud Miss Stakes.

Backgammon On Target For Derby

{SCPinterestShare href=https://form.virtualformguide.com/racing-news/south-australia/49534-backgammon-on-target-for-derby.html layout=standard image=https://form.virtualformguide.com/images/stories/south_australia.gif desc=Peter Snowden is set to claim his second South Australian Derby in consecutive years for Sheikh Mohammed's Darley operation with... size=small}

Peter Snowden is set to claim his second South Australian Derby in consecutive years for Sheikh Mohammed's Darley operation with Backgammon primed for Sunday's Classic at Morphettville.

The Domesday gelding lacks the turn of foot of stablemate and last year's winner Kidnapped but the stable believes he has the staying qualities to get him across the line in the 2500m feature.

"Everything has fallen into place with him all prep," Paul Snowden, Melbourne foreman for his Sydney based father Peter, said.

"Each run he has improved and while it is his first start 2500 metres all indications are that it is going to be right up his alley."

Backgammon is backing up after a photo finish second to Kittens in last week's Chairman's Stakes (2020m). Eight of the past 20 Derby winners have finished first or second in the traditional lead up.

Snowden said Backgammon only needed a clear run to figure in the finish.

"Kidnapped was a better class of horse because he had a bit better turn of foot whereas Backgammon is a one paced stayer," Snowden said.

"You have got to put him (Backgammon) in the race at the half mile and let him keep picking up.

"He is not the sort of horse who can be held up and then expect him to sprint again."

Snowden said Backgammon had peaked for the Derby and the stable was "pretty keen to see what he can do".

"We're very happy with the horse and last week's run has really brought him on again," Snowden said.

"We can't put a lid on him now, he's jumping out of skin.

"It is just very pleasing to see him pull up that way leading in to his grand final."

VRC St Leger Stakes winner Right Of Refusal is $4 favourite for the Derby ahead of Backgammon ($6.50).

Crystal Lily is the best backed runner for the Group One Goodwood (1200m) and is a firming favourite from $6 to $4.80 ahead the Snowden-trained Pinwheel ($9) and last year's runner up Catapulted ($9).

Anthony Cummings Wins SA Derby

Shadows In The SunMore than three decades after he strapped a South Australian Derby winner for his father Bart, Anthony Cummings has his own name on the trainer's trophy after Shadows In The Sun led all the way in the Adelaide classic.

The win caught punters off guard with Shadows In The Sun starting at $21, but Cummings knew it was just a question of getting a firm track for the talented three-year-old.

He got a good (3) in Sunday's Derby (2500m) at Morphettville and that was enough for him to show his best under a heady ride from Ben Melham who steered him to a three-quarter length win over Echoes Of Heaven ($6.50).

Cummings opted not to return to his old home town for the race and extended the Mothers' Day celebrations in Sydney after the win.

"I decided to stay here because it was Mothers' Day but I enjoyed watching the race," Cummings said.

"When I first started working for Dad the Derby was the first stakes race we won together with Vacuum in 1976 when I was 20.

"It's great to win one of my own.

"I looked all around Australia and Adelaide was the only place where I could find a decent track for him.

"He raced OK in the Frank Packer Plate in Sydney considering it was heavy and he lost interest just going to the barrier.

"On top of the ground I knew he would do better.

"We sent him to Melbourne last week and he worked well in the opposite direction so we pressed on to Adelaide."

Shadows In The Sun finished sixth, 10 lengths behind Shootoff in the Frank Packer Plate on a heavy (9).

Cummings said the plan was to go forward from barrier 10 but not necessarily to lead.

"I told Ben to play it by ear because I was concerned about the 2500 metres.

"But once he got to the lead the horse relaxed and responded to his riding so it worked out."

Shadows In The SunAnthony CummingsCummings said he had not ruled out the Queensland Derby as long as the track was suitable.

"Wet tracks are out but nothing else is," he said.

"We will have a look and see."

Shootoff backed up his Frank Packer Plate form with victory in Saturday's Lord Mayor's Cup at Rosehill.

He has been elevated to $5 favouritism for the Queensland Derby (2400m) on June 11 with Shadows In The Sun an $18 chance.

Shadows In The Sun gave his sire Dane Shadow his second Group One victory with Shellscrape the winner of the 2010 Galaxy over 1100 metres.

Ain'tnofallenstar's excellent run in Adelaide stakes races continued this afternoon when she produced a stunning burst in the home straight to win the listed Laelia Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville.

The win was the third in Adelaide for the daughter of Starcraft and importantly her second at black type level.

Her previous big win came when Hall of Fame horseman Lee Freedman snuck her over the border to contest and win the HC Nitschke Stakes.

Ain'tnofallenstar was allowed to find her feet early and was ridden patiently by Ben Melham, who made it an early double after teaming up with Darren Weir to win the Dequetteville Stakes.

Freedman's long time stable foreman Scott Magee said after the race that he knew the filly would get back but was even a little surprised how far back.

"We told him that you have to ride this filly quiet - that is the way she seems to appreciate to race," Magee noted.

"I thought he'd taken it a bit to the extreme, but he knows the horse and she runs well for him and she's done the job."

"Her form is really good. She is an honest filly - she tries her heart out and we're glad to get a nice win out of her."

Ain'tnofallenstar ($4.80 eq fav) finished so quickly that by the time the finish was reached she held a widening length and a quarter margin over Jalsah ($15).

Well bred filly Fashion ($7), the mount of Darren Gauci, was a breath behind the runner-up in third place.

The multiple stakes winning filly was purchased for $270,000 by Badgers Bloodstock from the Arrowfield Stud draft at the 2009 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

A daughter of former globetrotting sensation Starcraft, Ain'tnofallenstar is a daughter of the former top Canberra trained mare Ain't Seen Nothin'.

Prepared during her career by Barb Joseph, Ain't Seen Nothin' won eight races and earned over $600,000 during a classy career.

She won three times at listed level and was placed in a further five group races including a third in the Group One Underwood Stakes at Caulfield.

Her two named foals to race are both winners - the other is the three time victor Hidden Charges.

The family further back includes Golden Slipper winner Polar Success and Oaks winner and grand producer Circles of Gold.

ShrapnelTrainer Mark Kavanagh has stacked The Goodwood with five runners in his quest to win Adelaide's feature sprint for the first time.

Last year's runner-up Catapulted will again line up for the Flemington-based trainer alongside stablemates Shrapnel, Undeniably, Valentine Miss and Dr Doute's in Sunday's field of 20 plus an emergency.

"I am just hoping they all run well," Kavanagh said.

Kavanagh, who has a satellite stable in Adelaide where he trained before moving to Melbourne four years ago, said each of his runners had genuine Goodwood claims.

Three-year-old Shrapnel, $8 second favourite behind Crystal Lily ($6) with TAB Sportsbet, goes in to the Group One sprint as the most popular of the Kavanagh team after his last start Yallambee Classic victory.

Although history is against him being the first Yallambee-Goodwood winner in the same year, Kavanagh is keen on his chances.

"He has come through the that (Yallambee Classic) well and is in good order," Kavanagh said.

Kavanagh withdrew Shrapnel from the Group One Galaxy at Randwick on April 23 when heavy rain forced a track downgrade.

He said Catapulted was capable of bouncing back from two down-the-track performances in the Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and the traditional Goodwood lead up, the Group Three McKay Stakes (1100m).

"He had a sore foot that we thought we were on top of at each of his last two runs but we seem to have it right now," Kavanagh said.

"He won a trial in Adelaide on Monday so we're happy with him."

Catapulted is $10 while Undeniably is $13 for his first run since finishing seventh over 1400 metres at Flemington on March 12.

"He's been freshened up since campaigning in Melbourne in the autumn and he goes well fresh," Kavanagh said.

Valentine Miss has gone to another level this campaign and is $14 after finishing fourth to Response in the Group One Sportingbet Classic (1200m) at Morphettville on March 26 and backed it up with a photo finish second to Streetcar Magic in the McKay Stakes two weeks ago.

"She deserves her spot in the field and has drawn well in barrier five," Kavanagh said.

Kavanagh's outsider is Dr Doute's at $71.

"He is a bit of moody galloper and he might need a shower of rain but at his best he would be around the mark," Kavanagh said.
