RACE 1 – GRAHAM CORNES MOTORS / SABIS TWO-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE – 900 metres

PURRUSAL (B. Claridge) was slow to jump.

GOLD SIENNA (J. Holder) and LIVING SPIRIT (S. Price) jumped away awkwardly.

In the vicinity of the 300 metres PURRUSAL (B. Claridge) got its head up and was inclined to race greenly.

RACE 2 – DUTTON HOLDEN CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1400 metres

On jumping away COVET IN GOLD (J. Lyon) shifted out and tightened GREAT VIEW (B. Claridge).

Approaching the 1200 metres JAZ BREE (J. Maund) shifted out, taking COVET IN GOLD (J. Lyon) out onto GREAT VIEW (B. Claridge), which was inconvenienced when tightened onto TAOH ((J. Bowditch).

Inside the 400 metres COVET IN GOLD (J. Lyon) became held up for some distance, when racing inside GREAT VIEW (B. Claridge).

RACE 3 – FINANCIAL INDEX MAIDEN PLATE – 1600 metres

REBELLION (J. Maund) jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 1200 metres CIELO LAHA (M. Neilson) commenced to get its head up and raced ungenerously.

In the vicinity of the 1100 metres TERRIST (W. Kerford), which commenced to race keenly, was obliged to steady as it improved onto the heels of other runners.

In the vicinity of the 500 metres CRAFTY MISS (J. Lyon) dipped for no apparent reason on two occasions.

Inside the 400 metres ROMANTIC LASS (S. Price) shifted out and contacted CIELO LAHA (M. Neilson), which became unbalanced for a short distance.

Approaching the 200 metres ROMANTIC LASS (S. Price) shifted out onto REBELLION (J. Maund) and contacted that gelding on two occasions.

J. Maund, rider of the 2nd Placegetter REBELLION, lodged an objection against the winner ROMANTIC LASS (S. Price), on the grounds of alleged interference over the concluding 250 metres. After considering the evidence, acting on their own observations and viewing the official film, Stewards were convinced the interference suffered by REBELLION was sufficient to alter the placings to:

Third 3 MANTLE TALK (C. Lever)
Fourth 7 SYMPOSIA (C. Bryant)

RACE 4 – RIVERGLEN MARINA CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1000 metres

WISE CRACKER (J. O’Connor) jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 700 metres RURAL FORREST (J. Bowditch), which had commenced to race keenly, was obliged to steady off the heels of CHAMPAGNE FINALE (J. Holder), which shifted in.

Approaching the entrance to the straight CHAMPAGNE FINALE (J. Holder) commenced to lay out and continued to lay out under pressure in the straight, proving difficult to ride.

BLUE BOWS lost a near fore plate during the race.

RACE 5 – BUNDABERG RUM DISTANCE CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 2200 metres

FREELANCE (D. Carney) was slow to jump.

Inside the 400 metres MARCH IN STYLE (C. Lever) rolled in under pressure and inconvenienced VICHENO (J. Maund).

QUITE EASY (NZ), which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the mare was lame in the near fore leg. Mr. R. Jolly, Trainer of QUITE EASY (NZ), advised the mare would now be spelled.

RACE 6 – T & R MURRAY BRIDGE CHRISTMAS CUP – 1600 metres

Near the finish of the race FUTURE COMMAND lost its off fore plate.

DHOLIMA’S DAUGHTER was withdrawn by Stewards at 11.11 a.m. on advice from the Trainer Mrs. B. Perry, that the mare was lame in the off hind leg.

D. Carney, rider of MOOTIARA, reported that he had been unable to obtain clear ground on the gelding after entering the straight. D. Carney was questioned by Stewards into his failure to attempt a run, which became available inside REAL SHANTY (D. Tootell) and outside DANEFORCE (B. Grimston) inside the 100 metres. After considering the explanation D. Carney was advised in future he would be expected to at least attempt runs where they became available.

Approaching the 200 metres REAL SHANTY (D. Tootell) shifted out and brushed FUTURE COMMAND (J. Potter).

RACE 7 – COLLINS ANDERSON CLASS 3 HANDICAP (STAR OF XMAS SERIES HEAT 3) – 1200 metres

KYMATT (J. Bowditch) jumped away awkwardly.

Near the 300 metres MR. JUNEE (D. Carney) shifted out and away from SHIRAZ NOW (S. Price) and tightened ON THE STEEL (J. Potter), onto PRINCESS TAYLAH (M. Neilson). As a result, ON THE STEEL was obliged to steady off the heels of MR. JUNEE and PRINCESS TAYLAH was forced to check off the heels of ON THE STEEL. D. Carney was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

Approaching the 200 metres PRINCESS TAYLAH (M. Neilson) rolled out and brushed POP’S TAURUS (W. Kerford).

Inside the 200 metres IRISH MUR (D. Tootell) and MR. JUNEE (D. Carney) brushed together.

Near the 100 metres HIONDI (J. Holder) rolled out and brushed GOLDEN KOLOLO (S. Harrison).

RACE 8 – DUNDEE’S HOTEL MAIDEN PLATE – 1200 metres

While being loaded TAOS PLEASURE reared and dislodged its rider B. Grimston. TAOS PLEASURE was withdrawn by Stewards at 4.30 p.m., acting on Veterinary advice that the gelding was not fit to run. Mr. J. Hickmott, Trainer of TAOS PLEASURE, was advised the gelding would now be required to load to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an Official Barrier Trial before accepting for a future event.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on TAOS PLEASURE be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN 3 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 4 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are subject to the deductions.

IWO JIMA (J. Lyon) was slow to jump.

VENTALI (B. Claridge) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out, tightening JEUNE’S REIGN (S. Price) onto JABBAR (J. O’Connor), resulting in both runners being inconvenienced.

Approaching the 300 metres JEUNE’S REIGN (S. Price) was obliged to steady off the heels of RAE OF FREEDOM (J. Maund), which shifted in under riding.
