Swettenham Day a Must at Morphettville

South Australian racing goes into overdrive this Saturday with the running of the $250,000 Group 2 Swettenham Stud Stakes and $100,000 Group 3 CentreRacing Tokyo City Cup.

Hot on the hooves of the weekend’s top notch action is the $400,000 Channel 7 Magic Millions Adelaide 2-year-old Classic, SA’s joint richest race.

"Outside of the Carnival, no period of racing reaches the heights we will enjoy over the next 10 days." Exclaims Steve Ploubidis, the SA Jockey Club Chief Executive.

"We are expecting some of the country’s most exciting gallopers to be in town, as well as some of the leading riders. The Swettenham Stud Stakes has long been regarded as one of the best races in South Australia and this year’s field looks set to emphasise that further."

Likely starters include Group 1 winning New Zealander, Our Egyptian Raine, the lightly raced Lee Freedman trained, Dama de Noche and the talented Fair Embrace.

The Swettenham Stud Stakes, shares its billing with the Tokyo City Cup, a race that has always been a favourite with racegoers with plenty of family entertainment scheduled.

"This is the ninth running of the Tokyo City Cup, a race that was developed to encourage goodwill between the Cities of Adelaide and Tokyo. There is a reciprocal race, the Adelaide City Cup, run at Ohi Racecourse in Tokyo every year in September. " Ploubidis continues.

The quality of the sport on show should entice racing fans to the track, as should a new trackside innovation.

"We’re all set to begin our live trackside hosting this weekend, with interviews of jockeys, trainers, owners and racing personalities before and after races. This should add enormously to our patron’s level of entertainment, as well help boost the profile of many local industry participants."

"Also, for a bit of fun, bearing in mind the Swettenham Stud Stakes is all about the fillies, we’re running a special promotion. Every female attending the races on Saturday will be provided with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine. That should help get them off to a winning start!" Steve Ploubidis concludes.
