RACE 1 - KEPPOCH PRODUCE / SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres

Near the 1000 metres ALOHA SKIES (C. Lindop) shifted out onto HIKING (B. Claridge), which shifted out abruptly onto SUEDILOU (P. Marks).

RACE 2 - WHITEHEAD TIMBER SALES / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE - 1000 metres

Correct Weight was delayed to permit C. Lindop, rider of the 3rd Placegetter RICKETTY ROCKET, to view the official head-on film of the finish. C. Lindop lodged an objection against the winner CHURCHILL ROAD (D. Yendall), on the grounds of alleged interference over the final 200 metres. After considering the evidence, viewing the official footage and acting on their own observations, Stewards dismissed the objection.

The start was delayed when RULEBREAKER (C. Buchiw), CHURCHILL ROAD (D. Yendall) and MICANTRA (H. McKechnie) were all difficult to load. Mr. J. Hickmott (RULEBREAKER), Mr. S. Padman (CHURCHILL ROAD) and Mr. D. Dodson (MICANTRA) were advised warnings had been placed on their horses in relation to their barrier manners.

MICANTRA (H. McKechnie) jumped away awkwardly.

UMAFLIGHT (D. Missen) jumped away awkwardly and raced greenly in the early stages.

In the vicinity of the 700 metres GOLD QUILL (J. Potter) raced greenly.

Near the 450 metres SALTIMBANCO (B. Claridge) shifted in and bumped HOSTILE INTENT (G. Hoobin) and as a result both horses became unbalanced.

Inside the 200 metres CHURCHILL ROAD (D. Yendall) shifted in, tightened and hampered RICKETTY ROCKET (C. Lindop). Shortly after RICKETTY ROCKET shifted in and brushed the hindquarters of UMAFLIGHT (D. Missen). D. Yendall was advised to take more care in similar circumstances.

MICANTRA was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported no visible abnormalities.

 

RACE 3 - G D & V SCHOLEFIELD BUILDERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1100 metres

ALRAMIL (H. McKechnie) jumped out at the start and bumped KOODA SHINE (N. Stone).

 

RACE 4 - KINCRAIG MOTORS HANDICAP - 2000 metres

Correct Weight was delayed to permit Mr. R. Post, Trainer of the 4th Placegetter SPIRIT OF DEMUS, to view the official photo-finish print for third.

COUNTY COOPER (C. Buchiw) jumped away awkwardly.

RACE 5 - MUNRO & GRIGGS AUTO REPAIRS CLASS 3 HANDICAP - 1200 metres

CHELISE MARIE (D. Yendall) jumped away awkwardly, shifted out and bumped LINDROS (B. Claridge).

Inside the 200 metres CHELISE MARIE (D. Yendall) shifted in and as a result OUTBACK AUSSIE (D. Tootell) shifted in and away from that mare, resulting in LINDROS (B. Claridge) having to be steadied for a few strides. D. Yendall was reminded of his obligations when his mounts commence to shift ground.

OUTBACK AUSSIE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon, who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 6 - KNIGHTS SNACK BAR CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1430 metres

G. Hoobin replaced D. Tootell, who had replaced K. Post on CANNY CIRCLE. D. Tootell became indisposed after riding in Race 5.

TOAST TO LENNY (D. Missen) was unable to obtain clear ground from the 500 to inside the 300 metres.

RACE 7 - SMOKE-FREE CHALLENGE 2003 (Heat 6) - 1200 metres

The start was delayed when ALPINE LASS (C. Buchiw) broke through the barriers when APTEGO (T. Barras) and ELMO’S HERO (J. Lyon) were both very fractious. ALPINE LASS was quickly reined in and after a Veterinary examination was passed fit to start.

JETWAY (C. Puls) stood flat-footed at the start and as a result lost considerable ground. Trainer Mr. R. Wilson was advised that a warning had been placed on JETWAY in relation to its barrier manners.

Near the 900 metres MOSSITON (G. O’Loughlin), which was showing a tendency to lay out had to be steadied from the heels of KEDRON (B. Vale). Shortly after MOSSITON showed a tendency to race ungenerously.

MOSSITON (G. O’Loughlin) was held up for a clear run for a short distance on the home turn.

BITOVATUNE (D. Yendall) was disappointed for a run between the 350 and the 100 metres.

RACE 8 - NARACOORTE STOCK CARRIERS 2 YEARS & UP MAIDEN PLATE - 1430 metres

D. Tootell was examined by the Club’s Medical Officers and passed fit to fulfil his engagement in this event.

RIVER RULER was a late scratching by the Stewards at 2.27 p.m., acting on Veterinary advice that the gelding had suffered a laceration to its off hind leg en route to the course.

LITTLE SAMMY (C. Buchiw) and CASTLE IN THE SKY (B. Claridge) were slow to begin.

Shortly after the start AROUND US (P. Marks) shifted in onto CALL ME LOUISE (J. Potter), which raced ungenerously when being restrained and shifted in, hampering LITTLE SAMMY (C. Buchiw).

D. Missen, rider of BARTORQ, was warned for accidentally dropping his whip near the 200 metres.
