RACE 1 - CLIPSAL DATACOMMS / SABIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP - 1200 metres

The start of this race was delayed due the ambulance failing to arrive on course at the required time.

PEGASUS CROWN (B. Claridge) was unruly en route to the barrier.

IMPERIAL WORLD was fractious in the barriers and as a result C. Lever suffered a leg injury. C. Lever was examined by the Club’s Medical Officers and passed fit to ride.

THE UPSTAGER was difficult to load. Trainer Mr. M. Minervini, representing Mr. L. Macdonald, was advised that a warning had been placed on the filly in relation to its barrier manners.

AUCTION BELL (D. Carney) jumped out at the start and bumped PEGASUS CROWN (B. Claridge).

PEGASUS CROWN (B. Claridge) raced greenly and hung out badly from the 600 metres and was eventually eased out of the race in the straight. Trainer Mr. J. Dunn was advised the gelding must complete a Barrier Trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before accepting for any future event. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary examination of PEGASUS CROWN revealed a small laceration inside its mouth.

A subsequent Veterinary examination IMPERIAL WORLD revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 2 - CLIPSAL INDUSTRIAL MOELLER DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE - 2050 metres

MOONEY (K. Louca) was slow to begin and pulled hard in the early stages.

Shortly after passing the finish post on the first occasion VALHOLL (Darren Holland) shifted in and as a result OSH (N. Tomizawa) became unbalanced for a few strides before easing from the heels of VALHOLL.

D. Tootell, rider of KEEPARA PRINCE, reported that his saddle had shifted slightly when passing the finish post on the first occasion and eventually righted itself in the vicinity of the 500 metres.

Inside the 200 metres CLOWNS (B. Grimston) was disappointed for a run.

RACE 3 - PIERLITE LIGHTING MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres

ELTON’S ROSE (K. Post) jumped out at the start and bumped BRIGHT AMBER (C. Lindop), which shifted out and bumped STAATRIQ (B. Dunn).

CLAY TRICE (J. Lyon) was slow to begin.

Inside the 200 metres CRIMSON SEEDLESS (B. Claridge) momentarily laid in, resulting in that rider having to stop riding and straighten his mount.

Trainer Mr. M. Whittle and Jockey Shane Tronerud were questioned regarding the apparent poor performance of MORE TIME in this event. Shane Tronerud advised that MORE TIME showed a tendency to over-race in the early stages and after being taken on in the middle stages, by the eventual winner AKAL (C. Lever), had not been able to respond to his riding over the concluding stages. Trainer Mr. M. Whittle advised it was MORE TIME’S first start for him today and he had been surprised at how excitable the filly had become on-course. He added this may have been the reason for her over-racing. Mr. M. Whittle and Shane Tronerud were advised their explanations had been noted. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary examination of MORE TIME revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 4 - CLIPSAL INDUSTRIAL CLASS 4 HANDICAP - 1600 metres

BROTHER JIM (K. Post) jumped away awkwardly.

Subsequent to the race a Veterinary examination of TASTE THE MAGIC revealed the gelding was showing symptoms of tying-up.

RACE 5 - CLIPSAL INTEGRATED SYSTEMS CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1350 metres

The start of this event was delayed when COUNTER CAPERS proved difficult to load. Stable representative, Mr. B. Rouge-Serret, representing Trainer Mr. J. T. Hall, was advised a warning had been placed on the mare in relation to its barrier manners.

BACONER’S SISTER (K. Post) was slow to begin.

SARATOGA BOY (R. Faehr) and SIMONDE (D. Carney) bumped at the start.

Shortly after the start MOVED (J. Lyon) shifted in and hampered AMBER COURT (Shane Tronerud).

Jockey J. Bowditch was questioned regarding the performance of COUNTER CAPERS in today’s event. J. Bowditch reported that COUNTER CAPERS was in a piggish mood prior to the start, as was shown when the mare proved difficult to load into the barriers. He further added that during the running of the race COUNTER CAPERS had failed to respond to his riding when asked for an effort and in his opinion the mare had been disappointing. A subsequent Veterinary examination of COUNTER CAPERS revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 6 - CLIPSAL ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES HANDICAP - 1600 metres

SOUTHERN RENEGADE was a late scratching by Stewards, acting on Veterinary advice, at 3.29 p.m. when the gelding was found to be sore in both fore legs.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on SOUTHERN RENEGADE be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN 23 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 18 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are subject to the deductions.

In the vicinity of the 1300 metres MILITARY TUNE (Darren Holland) shifted in and as a result JESTER’S EDGE (W. Kerford) had to be steadied for a few strides. Darren Holland was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

Over the concluding stages TAWTRICE (B. Dunn) showed a tendency to lay in, forcing its rider to stop riding and straighten her mount.

RACE 7 - CLIPSAL EVERY ROOM, EVERY HOME CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1200 metres

FARASHA (M. Pumpa) jumped out at the start and bumped LOVE OF BRANDY (M. Henderson).

BOURBON AND WATER (C. Lindop) was held up for a clear run in the vicinity of the 400 metres.

RACE 8 - MYSTRAL / SABIS FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE - 1350 metres

DANCE FOR KATE (B. Dunn) dipped shortly after the start.

Near the 600 metres GALWAY LASS (C. Lindop) commenced to hang out badly. Trainer Mr. B. Mueller was advised that a warning had been placed on GALWAY LASS in relation to its racing manners. Subsequent to the race a Veterinary examination of GALWAY LASS revealed the mare had returned with some small lacerations inside its mouth.

Near the 300 metres REGAL RIPPLE (J. Maund) shifted out onto MOON HALO (N. Tomizawa), which in turn shifted out onto GALWAY LASS (C. Lindop), which was continuing to hang out. As a result GALWAY LASS shifted out wider on the track. J. Maund was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

Over the concluding stages REGAL RIPPLE (J. Maund) shifted out slightly and hampered MOON HALO (N. Tomizawa).
