RACE 1 – PARNELL MOGAS DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE – 1750 metres:

ROSSIDA was withdrawn at 12.47 p.m., acting on Veterinary advice, the mare was unfit to start due to being lame in its near fore leg.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on ROSSIDA be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN 3 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 4 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are subject to the deductions.

Mr. J. Allen, Trainer of ROSSIDA, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required prior to accepting for a future event.

Racing to the 1500 metres LUNAR ROSSA (C. Buchiw) had to be steadied on several occasions to avoid the heels of REKORB (K. Louca), due to the pace slackening at that stage of the race.

Racing to the 1200 metres OUR KDAN (J. Bowditch) shifted in and as a result TANTINE MARTINE (J. Potter) was tightened for room and brushed NOT LATE (C. Lindop) on its inside, on several occasions

J. Bowditch, rider of OUR KDAN, reported to Stewards his mount had a tendency to hang in over the concluding stages of the race.

RACE 2 – THE DAIQUIRI FACTORY / SABIS MAIDEN PLATE – 1000 metres:

On arrival at the barrier KONDOOLKA SEA was kicked by another runner and underwent a Veterinary examination and was found to be lame in its off hind leg. Stewards ordered the withdrawal of KONDOOLKA SEA, acting on Veterinary advice, at 1.21 p.m.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on KONDOOLKA SEA be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN 27 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE 19 cents in the dollar.
SP bets are subject to the deductions.

SHANNONS BELLE (B. Vale) was slow to begin.

Approximately 50 metres after the start SHANNONS BELLE (B. Vale) was inconvenienced due to MAKE ME A STAR (D. Tootell) shifting in.

Racing to the 400 metres SHANNONS BELLE (B. Vale) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of MAKE ME A STAR (D. Tootell) and as a result raced ungenerously for some distance.

RACE 3 – MORPHETT ARMS HOTEL DISTANCE CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1950 metres:

Racing to the 1200 metres TRUCENT’S TOUCH (J. Marks) broke down and failed to finish the race. A subsequent Veterinary examination of TRUCENT’S TOUCH revealed the gelding had fractured its near hind leg and was euthanasia.

Racing to the 1100 metres PURAVALOUR (C. Buchiw), hung out and made contact with MOLLY DOLLY (B. Vale) on its outside, and in consequence rolled back in, resulting in SMYTZER’S TARO (K. Star), which was attempting a run on the inside of PURAVALOUR, to be disappointed and lose ground.

RACE 4 – INDEPENDENT DISTILLERS FLYING HANDICAP – 1000 metres:

RACE 5 – SUPA CHEAP HANDICAP – 1750 metres:

No report.

RACE 6 – BURNSIDE PLASTICS ‘SUNTUF’ CLASS 5 HANDICAP – 1250 metres:

Racing to the 200 metres LORD JAPATO (NZ) (K. Stra) shifted in and laid in over the concluding stages and as a result K. Star was unable to ride the gelding out in her normal manner.

K. Stra, rider of LORD JAPATO (NZ), was charged under ARR 83A with misconduct in the Scales following the event and fined $100.

RACE 7 – MALAYSIA AIRLINES / SABIS CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1200 metres:

SHAVINGS OF GOLD (C. Buchiw) jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, resulting in GIL ECHO (J. Burgess) shifting in and making contact with SOULS (D. Tootell), which in turn bumped SMYTZER’S VIEW (NZ) (Darren Holland) which, at the same time, shifted out.

Approximately 50 metres after the start GIL ECHO (J. Burgess), SOULS (D. Tootell) and SMYTZER’S VIEW (NZ) (Darren Holland) bumped on several occasions.

Racing to the 1000 metres SMYTZER’S VIEW (NZ) (Darren Holland) had to be eased and lost ground as a result.

Racing to the 900 metres GIL ECHO (J. Burgess) lost its position when tightened for room by SHAVINGS OF GOLD (C. Buchiw), which was inconvenienced by KINCHEGA (R. Fear), which shifted in.

Racing to the 700 metres SOULS (D. Tootell) commenced to over-race and had to be steadied to avoid the heels of runners in front.

Racing to the 300 metres SMYTZER’S VIEW (NZ) (Darren Holland) had to be eased to obtain a clear run and in doing so shifted out, resulting in GIL ECHO (J. Burgess) being inconvenienced.

Racing to the 200 metres GIL ECHO (J. Burgess) had to be eased when SMYTZER’S VIEW (NZ) (Darren Holland) shifted out.

SMYTZER’S VIEW (NZ) was galloped on its off hind hoof during the race and required Veterinary attention.

RACE 8 – SCHWEPPES / WEST COAST INSURANCE BROKERS CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1350 metres:

At the start KALAMAYA (J. Burgess) and GOD SENT (R. Fear) bumped.

Racing to the 200 metres KALAMAYA (J. Burgess) shifted out to obtain a clear run and in doing so inconvenienced TOUCH OF GREY (J. Marks), which shifted out and hampered SIMPLY SUAVE (Darren Holland). J. Burgess was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
