RACE 1 : FORREST ESTATE WINES HANDICAP - 1800 metres

Near the 500 metres TAG JEUR (C. Bryant) became held up when having to be steadied off the heels of LENKETA (B. Vale), which had commenced to weaken. In being steadied, C. Bryant attempted to obtain a run inside VALHOLL (Darren Holland) and was disappointed. C. Bryant was severely reprimanded and advised to only attempt runs where there is sufficient room in future.

At the entrance to the straight LIVING ON THE EDGE (S. Price) shifted out and tightened REGAL SHAMROCK (C. Lever) onto the hindquarters of CLOWNS (B. Grimston), which became unbalanced.

LENKETA was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the filly had suffered lacerations to its off side tendon during the race.

RACE 2 : BOOKMAKERS LEAGUE HANDICAP - 1200 metres

The start of this race was delayed owing to DANE DAYS requiring farrier attention.

WAVEFRONT lost its off fore plate during the running of the race.

RACE 3 : JAYCO HANDICAP - 1600 metres

MISTER MANDEREE (M. Neilson) jumped away awkwardly.

Inside the 400 metres TALANATO (P. Gatt) became held up when attempting a run inside RED PADDY (B. Claridge), which shifted in.

Over the concluding stages ODYSSEUS (B. Grimston) shifted in and tightened TALANTO (P. Gatt) onto KAHOONA (J. O’Connor). In consequence TALANTO was accidentally struck across the head by the whip of J. O’Connor. B. Grimston was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.

Correct Weight was delayed in being semaphored for this event to allow J. O’Connor and P. Gatt, the riders of the second and third placegetters, to view the official video film of the finish. After doing so, in conjunction with the Stewards, Correct Weight was declared.

QUICK CLASS, which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and found to have a lower than expected heart rate.

RACE 4 : PETER ELBERG FUNERALS HANDICAP - 1100 metres

The start of this race was delayed owing to SAAYEB (NZ) refusing to load. Acting on advice from the Starter, Mr. L. Cromwell, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of SAAYEB (NZ) at 2.27 pm. Stewards ruled that all monies invested on SAAYEB (NZ) be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 14 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 13 cents in the dollar.
SP Bets are subject to the deductions.

Mr. J. Cornell, representing Mr. A. McEvoy, the trainer of SAAYEB (NZ), was advised that the gelding will have to prove that it can be loaded without delay in an official barrier trial before accepting for any future event.

BLUE VENTURE (J. Lyon) jumped away awkwardly and shifted out tightening SWISS VAULT (B. Claridge) onto BEE RYAN ZEEBRA (B. Park).

Near the 1100 metres BEE RYAN ZEEBRA (B. Park) was obliged to steady off the heels of COUNTER SUE (J. Holder) and in consequence commenced to race fiercely.

Inside the 900 metres BLUE VENTURE (J. Lyon) was obliged to check off the heels of COUNTER SUE (J. Holder), which shifted in. In being checked, BLUE VENTURE shifted out and inconvenienced SWISS VAULT (B. Claridge) and as a result that filly became ungenerous for a short distance.

BEE RYAN ZEEBRA, which performed poorly, was subjected to an endoscopic examination, which revealed ulceration to the roof of the pharynx. Mr. S. Webb, the trainer of BEE RYAN ZEEBRA, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required for the colt before accepting for a future event.

SWISS VAULT was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the filly to have a higher than expected heart rate. Mr. S. Gower, trainer of the filly, advised that SWISS VAULT will now be spelled.

RACE 5 : NAVIGATOR HANDICAP - 1050 metres

HIGHBURY (N. Tomizawa) and SUNTURWASI (C. Buchiw) jumped away awkwardly.

RACE 6 : THE POPE TAP TIMER CLASSIC MILE - 1600 metres

KING’S HAVEN was examined on arrival at the start and found to be lame in the off fore knee. Acting on that advice, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of KING’S HAVEN at 3.45 pm. Mrs. E. Whittle, representing Mr. M. Whittle, the trainer of KING’S HAVEN, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required for the gelding before accepting for a future event.

Stewards ruled that all monies invested on KING’S HAVEN be refunded. Bets made on other runners prior to the withdrawal were to be paid on the face value of the ticket less:
Bets for a WIN - 16 cents in the dollar, and
Bets for a PLACE - 14 cents in the dollar.

FRAAR’S TURN (S. Price) jumped away very awkwardly.

Approaching the 1300 metres VIGNOR (P. Gatt) shifted in and contacted THE EX FILES (D. Carney), which shifted in and brushed BRAVE DECISION (B. Claridge).

Approaching the entrance to the straight, SHOCKS (J. Holder) shifted out and brushed FRAAR’S TURN (S. Price).

S. Price, the rider of FRAAR’S TURN, explained that his mount did not give him a good feel during the race and when placed under pressure did not improve as he had expected. FRAAR’S TURN was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported not visible abnormalities.

RACE 7 : MALAYSIA AIRLINES STAKES - 1200 metres

LAZING ABOUT (J. Maund) shifted in on jumping away and tightened UNROCEL SAINT (W. Kerford), which shifted away, and inconvenienced LOWENDALE ROAD (J. Bowditch).

Inside the 800 metres LATTE (S. Price) was obliged to steady off the heels of BOLD REEF (J. Lyon), which rolled in.

Approaching the finish LATTE (S. Price) was tightened by LOWENDALE ROAD (J. Bowditch), which was inclined to shift out and away from SUZY GREY (P. Gatt).

J. Lyon, the rider of BOLD REEF, explained that the mare had been slow into stride and in the vicinity of the 900 metres he elected not to persist with an attempt to lead as, in his opinion, it would have been detrimental to his mount. He stated that whilst being restrained BOLD REEF clipped the heels of LAZING ABOUT (J. Maund), got its head up and became ungenerous. BOLD REEF was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

LAZING ABOUT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding to be distressed and showing signs of an elevated heart rate. An endoscopic examination of LAZING ABOUT revealed significant intra pulmonary haemorrhage. Mr. P. Jolly, the Trainer of LAZING ABOUT, advised Stewards that it would be his recommendation to the owners that LAZING ABOUT be eased in its work.

RACE 8 : MARSH HANDICAP - 1200 metres

HI TAIL (C. Lever) jumped away very awkwardly.
