Suzy's Unbeaten Adelaide Record on the Line

Talented sprinter Suzy Grey is primed to keep her unbeaten South Australian record intact when she resumes in Saturday's $40,300 Listed Malaysia Airlines Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

The grey, prepared by Alan Bailey at Caulfield, has had two starts in Adelaide for two wins - in the Group 2 Swettenham Stud Stakes and the Listed City Of Marion Stakes - both last season.

The mare is resuming on Saturday but has a great record fresh and her record over the last 12 months is excellent . She was prepared for last year's Group 1 Goodwood Handicap at Morphettville in May but dodged the race due to rain, heading straight to Brisbane where she was luckless in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap behind Show A Heart and Falvelon.

After a short break she raced last spring but, after four uncharacteristic runs, returned to the paddock.

"As you know, she hates rain, so we decided to bypass the Adelaide carnival last year and head straight to Brisbane," Trevor Bailey said. "She ran some great races there and I've no doubt she would have won the Stradbroke had she gotten to the outside in the straight. She went to the paddock up there but her feet were cut back too much, and we struggled to get her right in the spring. Rather than press on, we pulled the pin and sent her out for another break."

According to Bailey, this will be Suzy Grey's last campaign before going to stud. He hopes to add to her record in the next few months, which will include campaigning in both Adelaide and Brisbane again.

"She is going as well as ever after a long break and she's primed to run a good race fresh," Bailey said. "All I can hope for is the weather to stay clear.

"After this she will be aimed at the Goodwood Handicap, before maybe another crack at the Stradbroke. This is definitely her last campaign so any black type we can pick up along the way will be a bonus."

Paul Gatt, who is unbeaten on the mare in Adelaide, will again ride this weekend.
