RACE 1 – McLAREN VALE TRADERS DAY / SABIS FILLES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres

MURRAY MAGPIE (J. Lyon) jumped out at the start, at the same time as STAR REEF (B. Grimston) jumped in and as a result BLEVIC’S JEWEL (T. Creek), which was between those two horses, was hampered and lost some ground.

K. Stra, rider of BECANT, accidentally dropped her off-side rein over the concluding stages.

RACE 2 – SABELLA VINEYARDS / SABIS DISTANCE MAIDEN PLATE - 2050 metres

MULTICHAMP (T. Creek) was hampered at the start and lost its position when OSH (N. Tomizawa) jumped out.

SWITCH VISION (D. Tootell) showed a tendency to over-race in the early stages and had to be steadied from the heels of RHEET PETITE (J. Maund), shortly after passing the finish post on the first occasion.

MULTICHAMP (T. Creek) showed a tendency to race untractably in the early and middle stages, and raced with its head in the air for a short distance.

CLASSICAL ROCK (J. Holder) shifted in, in the vicinity of the 400 metres and inconvenienced STELAW (C. Lindop).

MULTICHAMP (T. Creek) was disappointed for a run for some distance on the home turn behind OSH (N. Tomizawa) and KENTON KNIGHT (J. Bowditch).

T. Creek was questioned in relation to the performance of MULTICHAMP in today’s event. T. Creek advised Stewards that after suffering interference at the start, he had no real option but to race on the fence and he was of the opinion that in the middle stages MULTICHAMP had resented being in that position. As a result, he attempted to shift off the fence in the vicinity of the 1200 metres but MULTICHAMP had raced untractably and he had been unable to shift off the rails. T. Creek said he attempted to shift off the rails at the 700 metres, as his instructions had been not to race on the fence, but at that point horses on his outside had commenced to tire and he decided to ride MULTICHAMP for luck from the 700 metres. T. Creek further stated that on the home turn, after making up some ground on the fence, he had then been held up and as a result was unable to work his way into the race at that point. T. Creek was advised his explanations would be noted.

Trainer Mr. D. Balfour was advised that a warning had been placed on MULTICHAMP in relation to it racing untractably in the early and middle stages.

RACE 8 – McLAREN VALE QUARRIES MAIDEN PLATE - 1350 metres

Trainer Mr. J. Hickmott was fined $100 under ARR 59A for failing to have the Document of Description for PRINCE BALETTA. Stewards were able to identify PRINCE BALETTA from their computer print-out and the gelding was permitted to start.

PRINCE BALETTA (C. Buchiw) was slow to begin.

In the vicinity of the 800 metres SITKA (B. Claridge) shifted in slightly and as a result PRINCE BALETTA (C. Buchiw) had to be steadied for a few strides. B. Claridge was reminded of his obligations when in a similar situation in future.
