RACE 1 : MAGIC MILLIONS SA GREAT LUNCH HANDICAP - 1466 metres

Near the 900 metres NAFIR (NZ) (C. Lever) was obliged to steady when racing inside the heels of NIGHT THUNDER (J. Holder), which rolled in.

Inside the 300 metres NOT JUDE’S CHOICE (J. Bowditch) was disappointed when attempting a run between SHALINI (C. Buchiw), which shifted in and NIGHT THUNDER (J. Holder), which shifted out.

SHALINI was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and found to be lame in the off fore foot after the race. Mr. L. Macdonald, the trainer of the filly, reported that SHALINI would now be spelled.

NOT JUDE’S CHOICE lost its off hind plate during the race.

RACE 2 : JAYCO HANDICAP - 1000 metres

IMPERIAL WORLD (C. Buchiw) was slow to jump.

IMPERIAL WORLD (C. Buchiw) was inclined to race greenly and shift about in the early stages of the event.

Near the 200 metres MADURO (J. Holder) was obliged to steady off the heels of COME ON RORY (P. Gatt), which shifted out abruptly.

Approaching the 200 metres GRACE AND POWER (C. Lindop) was held up momentarily when looking to attempt a run inside SON OF SPARTACUS (S. Price), which rolled in.

From the 200 metres GRACE AND POWER (C. Lindop) was reluctant to accept a run, which was available inside SHE’S A CARD (J. Lyon).

LACQUERING lost its near hind plate and SHE’S A CARD lost its near fore plate during the race.

RACE 3 : WILLOW GROVE STUD HANDICAP - 1466 metres

At the entrance to the straight JEZARICH (J. Bowditch) shifted out and brushed LA MISSIONAIRE (S. Price).

LA MISSIONAIRE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

JEZARICH lost its off fore plate during the race.

RACE 4 : CENTRE STALLS HANDICAP - 1822 metres

OXFORD DOLLAR lost its off hind plate during the race.

RACE 5 : KAMBULA STUD HANDICAP - 1000 metres

The start of this race was delayed owing to OXFORD REGENT being presented without blinkers. Mr. L.J. Smart, representing Mr. W. Smart, the trainer of the gelding, was questioned and advised that future infringements would result in a penalty being imposed.

Shortly after jumping QUEEN MIDAS (C. Lindop) shifted out and inconvenienced CALIGULA (J. Holder).

Near the 800 metres BACARDI AND DRY (B. Claridge), which was inclined to lay in, shifted in and contacted QUEEN MIDAS (C. Lindop).

Approaching the 600 metres BACARDI AND DRY (B. Claridge) was obliged to steady off the heels of IDENTIFIABLE (M. Neilson), which shifted in. M. Neilson was reprimanded and advised to give riders on his inside the room to which they are entitled in future.

In the straight BACARDI AND DRY (B. Claridge) was inclined to lay in under pressure.

CALIGULA lost both fore plates during the race.

RACE 6 : BLUE GUM FARM HANDICAP - 1266 metres

Shortly after the start HARSH PRAISE (J. Holder) was inconvenienced and lost its position when tightened by MISTER MANDEREE (D. Carney) as a result of that gelding being taken in by PREMONISH (C. Buchiw). C. Buchiw was advised to take greater care when shifting ground in future.

Inside the 200 metres LOWENDALE ROAD (S. Price) was inconvenienced by HARSH PRAISE (J. Holder), which rolled in.

J. Holder, the rider of HARSH PRAISE, which performed poorly, explained that although slow away and obliged to lose his position shortly after the start, it was the intention to ride the gelding back in the field. He stated that although satisfied with his position in running, he was disappointed that the gelding did not improve when placed under pressure in the straight. HARSH PRAISE was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

S. Price, the rider of LOWENDALE ROAD, which performed poorly, explained that he had not persisted in riding his mount inside the 200 metres as, in his opinion, it was sore. LOWENDALE ROAD was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the gelding to be lame in the near fore hoof. Mr. D.G. Balfour, trainer of LOWENDALE ROAD, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required before accepting for a future event.

RACE 7 : OAKSIDE PARK HANDICAP - 1416 metres

Mr. R. Law, the trainer of ROYAL REALM, was questioned regarding his declaration of J. Maund to ride the gelding as J. Maund held a firm engagement to ride QUICK CLASS. Mr. Law’s explanation was accepted, however, he was advised that in future he would be expected to conduct his business more professionally.

BUFFALO POWER (C. Lever) and PLEASANT MICK (P. Gatt) were slow to jump.

P. Gatt, the rider of PLEASANT MICK, reported that shortly after entering the straight he had become concerned with his mount’s action and for that reason had eased it out of the event in the vicinity of the 200 metres. PLEASANT MICK was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities, however, the Veterinary Surgeon was of the opinion that PLEASANT MICK may have choked down on pulling up.

RACE 8 : BONNETT’S HANDICAP - 1316 metres

Approaching the 1000 metres TROLL (J. Holder), which got its head up and was inclined to race ungenerously, shifted out and inconvenienced BLUE PRINCESS (S. Price).

GENERAL (VETERINARY):

GRAND MANSION, LUCIETON LADY and HARCOURT, which travelled significant distances to today’s meeting, were examined by the Veterinary Surgeon upon arrival on course and ruled fit to start.
