RACE 1 – LYNN DARRALL / SABIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE - 1200 metres

Near the 1100 metres RADIANT SOCIETY (J. Holder) shifted in and inconvenienced AUTOPLAY (C. Lindop), which was obliged to steady.

Correct Weight was delayed to permit B. Grimston, rider of the 2nd Placegetter AMENGEE, the opportunity to view the Stewards footage in the back straight. After doing so, B. Grimston declined to lodge an objection and Correct Weight was declared.

CYCLONIC LASS, which was inclined to be restless in the gates, suffered a laceration to its head.

RACE 2 – SUNSMART MAIDEN PLATE – 1050 metres

KING CHEONG (Darren Holland) was slow to jump.

DAKOTA PRINCE (M. Henderson) jumped away awkwardly.

Inside the 600 metres KING CHEONG (Darren Holland) hung out.

RACE 3 – WILLASTON HOTEL CLASS 1 HANDICAP – 1200 metres

MARMARUS KID (N. Tomizawa) was slow to jump.

In the vicinity of the 1000 metres LADY ASHLYN (M. Neilson), which was inclined to race greenly, shifted out and inconvenienced FONNIX (J. Holder). LADY ASHLYN continued to race greenly in the middle stages of the race.

When questioned regarding his riding of FONNIX in the early and middle stages, J. Holder advised that he had been instructed to ride the horse where it was comfortable, but not to bustle the horse because it could over-race. He explained that after commencing fairly FONNIX was obliged to race four wide in the early and middle stages and in the vicinity of the 1000 metres and again approaching the 600 metres, he had been inconvenienced by LADY ASHLYN (M. Neilson), being inclined to shift out. He stated that in the early stages of the event he had considered easing to take a position immediately behind LADY ASHLYN, but this position was eventually taken by BUICK (B. Vale), prior to him being able to take the option. He added that in the vicinity of the 600 metres he commenced to ride his mount and was surprised that it could not improve around LADY ASHLYN. J. Holder was advised his explanation would be reported. FONNIX was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported the mare to be sore in the off hind leg. Mr. C. Bromley, Trainer of FONNIX, was advised that a Veterinary Certificate of Fitness to Race would be required before the mare accepted for a future event.

 RACE 4 – WILLASTON AUTO ELECTRICS CLASS 2 HANDICAP – 1050 metres

M. Neilson was questioned regarding him being overweight for his engagement on CHEVITA in this event. M. Neilson was fined $100 under ARR 120 (b) and advised that future infringements would lead to a more significant penalty being imposed.

The start of this race was delayed owing to KWA HERENI breaking through the stalls. The mare was quickly restrained and returned to the start, where it was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled fit to start.

CLOSE IMITATION, which had been restless in the gates, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled fit to start.

SHEZA RIPPA (D. Cleaver) jumped away awkwardly and on jumping was inconvenienced by SIMONDE (W. Kerford), which shifted out abruptly.

Near the 200 metres CLOSE IMITATION (B. Claridge) dipped for no apparent reason.

D. Cleaver, rider of SHEZA RIPPA, reported that the mare, after being inconvenienced at the start, had been reluctant to hold a position inside horses in the early stages of the event. He added that SHEZA RIPPA had not previously experienced being ridden in a field. SHEZA RIPPA was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

CLOSE IMITATION was examined subsequent to the race and found to be lame in the near fore leg.

RURAL FORREST was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 5 – MATTISKE FUNERALS CLASS 3 HANDICAP – 1600 metres

BREWED MAGIC, which broke through the stalls prior to the start, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon and ruled fit to start.

SAUVIGNON HILL (C. Lindop) stood in the gates and missed the start several lengths. Ms. G. Henderson, Trainer of SAUVIGNON HILL, was informed that similar behaviour in future may lead to action being taken against that gelding.

Approaching the entrance to the straight FLY FOR ME (Darren Holland), which had commenced to shift out, became unbalanced when racing tight inside RONDA’S GIRL (N. Tomizawa).

At the entrance to the straight FLY FOR ME (Darren Holland) shifted out and brushed RONDA’S GIRL (N. Tomizawa).

B. Claridge, rider of KWAITPA, advised that in his opinion the gelding appeared sore when placed under pressure. A Veterinary examination subsequent to the race revealed no visible abnormalities.

RACE 6 – THE SANCTURY HAIR & BEAUTY CLASS 6 HANDICAP – 1050 metres

B. Claridge was questioned regarding being doubly engaged on BONNIE GOLLIE and FLINTO in this event. After considering his explanation B. Claridge was fined $100 and advised in future to conduct his affairs in a more professional manner.

Mr. B. Cozamanis, Trainer of FLEET DAPPER, was fined $50 under ARR 59A for not being able to provide the Document of Description. Stewards were able to confirm the identity of FLEET DAPPER from their own records and the gelding was permitted to start.

Near the 1000 metres QUEEN MIDAS (R. Faehr), which was inclined to lay away from runners on its inside, shifted out onto OUR FAME (B. Dunn), resulting in that mare shifting out, inconveniencing COSSACK LAW (D. Carney).

WINNING SPIRIT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.

RACE 7 – CENTRAL DISTRICT F.C. – GRAND CENTRAL HANDICAP – 1400 metres

FARHILLS (W. Kerford) jumped away awkwardly and was slow into stride.

When questioned regarding her riding of SPANISH ARMS, particularly in the early stages of the event, C. Lindop explained that it had been her intention not to compete for the early lead in view of the speed in the race, and to give the gelding every chance to run a strong 1400 metres she had attempted to settle it off the pace. She stated that her mount had travelled well in running, however due to the formation of the field, she had not been able to improve exactly as she would have wished in the middle stages of the event. C. Lindop explained she was disappointed that once being placed under pressure, SPANISH ARMS did not respond to her riding. C. Lindop was advised her explanation would be reported.

RACE 8 – LIFESTYLE PERGOLAS & TIMBER SUPPLIES MAIDEN PLATE – 1600 metres

Near the 1200 metres BLAZING GREIG (J. Maund) was inconvenienced when racing tight inside NIJINSKY PRINCE (B. Grimston), which had been taken in by MOONEY (B. Dunn), as a result of that gelding receiving pressure from GRANDE ROSSO (C. Lindop), which shifted in abruptly. MOONEY, which commenced to race greenly, was then inclined to lay in, resulting in NIJINSKY PRINCE being held tight onto BLAZING GREIG, which continued to race in restricted room. Stewards took no action as they considered no rider to be singularly responsible.

From the 600 metres IT AIN’T OVER (Darren Holland) which was inclined to lay out, shifted out, making the turn into the straight wide.

When questioned regarding his riding of IT AIN’T OVER, over the concluding 300 metres, Darren Holland explained that, in his opinion, the gelding had not been suited by the nature of the Gawler track and had commenced to lay out from approximately the 600 metres, and made the home turn at least seven horses wide. He added that, over the concluding stages it was his opinion that he had continued to ride IT AIN’T OVER in a hands and heels fashion. Darren Holland was advised in future he would be required to ride his mount to the finish of a race. IT AIN’T OVER was examined by the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon who reported no visible abnormalities.
